This also counts as my photo of the day.

Pig-footed bandicoots are one of the most unlikely creatures I've ever seen. Marsupials who have had some toes fuse into what looked like little hooves, and who, according to settlers, had the most ungainly gait, and looked like they were hop-skipping everywhere.

They are, of course, extinct.

Gilda and the Pig-Footed Bandicoot

Glen constantly looks at my artwork when it's not done and says 'it's done now right?' and it's like 'no, not done.' And he's like 'what do you have left to do?' And I say things like 'well the leaves need dotting and the amber needs shading and I need to add some additional dots around the eyes and I haven't finished the cross-hatching in the background.' And he stares at me and says 'anyone else would say it was done.'

Well, now the inking is done.

God I love your attention to detail! *awe*

Do you know what though? I always look and see more that I can do. More inking! More detail! More more more!

*shudders at self*

And then of course as soon as I colour it, the only people who will really ever see the detail again are those who buy large prints, or the person who has the original. The rest of it gets swamped and overwhelmed by colour.

And I don't know why, but I love that. It's like my picture has a secret that only those really close to it can realise. I love love love that.

Yeah, personally, I think that's an AWESOME feature. But I sure am glad it's not my arm doing the inking. ;-)

An author once said to me 'Editors exist to tell the writer when to STOP!"
lol

Gorgeous picture btw

I agree with someone else who commented here, black and white has an appeal all its own.

I can find some detail, even in the small prints I get (and not all of them I 'recall' a WIP photo of), but I have "artist's eyes" or Hawk's vision :)

Heh. Yeah, I get that too. "What do you mean it's not done?!"

I just laugh ruefully.

I have been eagerly waiting to see these two side by side. The ink work on this one is especially lovely.

Gilda as an alter is way more critical / demanding, so drawing this has been... well, there's a reason there's been a bit more attention to detail for her picture, and less so with Gil's.

In fact I don't think it's a coincidence that I've been way more critical and demanding since starting this picture in general, and having her energy more in the forefront.

My hands say thank you. They have run out of tears. *grin*

Yeah there were a few moments of 'YOU ARE NOT DRAWING NOW' from my fingers this week. Stupid dots in the stupid leaves.

wow, that's beautiful! i love that she looks soft yet really regal. the bandicoots are soooo freakin' cute!

I do wonder though...are you getting more intense with the spirals and the dotting and shading? I'll need to pay more attention, i know you do a lot of it but wow, it seems like it gets more and more intense. awww, neat you answered my question further down. :D

edit - er further up the list.

I know you mean for this to be coloured, ultimately, but I'll say it again: I wish you could offer some of these in black and white as well. Because the detail is stupendous, and as with black and white photographs, what one "sees" is different. I know your leaves were an astronomical amount of work, but they are beautiful. It's also interesting to me how different this piece feels from the companion one. I may be wrong, but to me she's sadder, and more still.

I think I know why you prefer to work in small sizes; if you worked in a 'standard' 8x10 size, you'd never finish! But ZOMG the intensity!

This is bigger than 8x10; it's 18 x 20 - it's the biggest size I work in for this kind of work. Though I could go double that (and then afterwards, illustrator's board sdoesn't really get any bigger in the state).

Oooo, I like the movement in this one. It's like I can almost see the drawing animating, her hair blowing and the leaves rustling :-)
