This also counts as my photo of the day.
Pig-footed bandicoots are one of the most unlikely creatures I've ever seen. Marsupials who have had some toes fuse into what looked like little hooves, and who, according to settlers, had the most ungainly gait, and looked like they were hop-skipping everywhere.
They are, of course, extinct.
Gilda and the Pig-Footed Bandicoot

Glen constantly looks at my artwork when it's not done and says 'it's done now right?' and it's like 'no, not done.' And he's like 'what do you have left to do?' And I say things like 'well the leaves need dotting and the amber needs shading and I need to add some additional dots around the eyes and I haven't finished the cross-hatching in the background.' And he stares at me and says 'anyone else would say it was done.'
Well, now the inking is done.

And then of course as soon as I colour it, the only people who will really ever see the detail again are those who buy large prints, or the person who has the original. The rest of it gets swamped and overwhelmed by colour.
And I don't know why, but I love that. It's like my picture has a secret that only those really close to it can realise. I love love love that.

Date: 2010-06-14 01:50 am (UTC)I just laugh ruefully.
I have been eagerly waiting to see these two side by side. The ink work on this one is especially lovely.

Date: 2010-06-14 01:51 am (UTC)In fact I don't think it's a coincidence that I've been way more critical and demanding since starting this picture in general, and having her energy more in the forefront.

Date: 2010-06-14 03:41 am (UTC)I do wonder though...are you getting more intense with the spirals and the dotting and shading? I'll need to pay more attention, i know you do a lot of it but wow, it seems like it gets more and more intense. awww, neat you answered my question further down. :D

I agree with someone else who commented here, black and white has an appeal all its own.
