In other weird news:

Red kangaroo totem likes The Presets.

So no TV in the background of this one, just grindy, thumpy music.

Bizarre.

I'm being a bit more experimental with my own 'as totems' pictures. Yay. I missed this.

Drawing red kangaroo has made me realise how much I love red kangaroo totem energy. Ho boy I LOVE it.

I've actually already written a file about red kangaroo here:

http://www.wildspeak.com/vilturj/totems/wredkangaroo.html

I've also drawn red kangaroo as totem twice before. The picture on the website is my very first, on cartridge paper, in fineliners and coloured pencils. One of my favourite pictures that I've ever done. It sat on my wall for years.

I don't talk much about my connection to macropods in the spirit world and this world, and I've mentioned Western brush wallaby more than red kangaroo... but their influence in my life is just... I can't describe it.

There are some animals out there which just have a presence that take your breath away when you really start communing with them in the otherworlds / this world.

And for me, red kangaroo and macropods in general (except maybe the smaller hare wallabies) have always exuded this to me.

Are there any animal totems that - for you - leave you feeling kind of breathless or hit hard when you see them? Animals that despite how they act around you, how gentle they seem, something about their energy just packs a whole lot of oooomph?

I run away from the oomph. Don't know what to do, how to be with it. I'm learning, though. Small steps.

There are some kinds of 'oomph' I don't enjoy, but kangaroo is like an adrenalin rush for me. It can take a while to learn how to appreciate it though. Small doses!

I'm not suprised that any kangaroo would like kinda thumpy grindy music. That's the sort of music that plays in my head whenever I see them. :)

That's awesome that you read that from kangaroo too. :)

There is something about deer, especially red deer, fallow deer, reindeer... basically the ones where the males could be considered harts or stags & the females are hinds. Elk, too.

I get hit with the Big Medicine stick whenever I see them. I don't necessarily count them among my totems or spirit guides, but they are so sacred that it knocks me on my butt. I've caught a glimpse of a snow-white elk bull once & it scared the living crap out of me. I knew for sure I was going to wake up 100 years later having been whisked away to Faery.

I've never really encountered male deer while journeying before (and of course not in real life, since they're just not common here and not wild)... but I have encountered horned gods and they always blow me away.

I've got red-deer envy of the ranchers in New Zealand. My secret will-probably-never-happen is a red deer farm up in Washington state.

We'd never make any money because every time I looked out over the rising morning mist & saw "OMG stags!" I'd never want to sell any of them, let alone butcher them & sell the venison.

Snakes. Especially in waking life. Whenever they get new ones at Petsmart, when I go to pick up cat food, I find myself with my nose pressed to the acrylic. I don't see them often in the 'wild' in my yard or anything like that, because the neighbourhood has a lot of dogs and a few cats that run loose.

I've never had snake as an ongoing personal guide or anything, but I imagine that would have very oomph-filled energy.

Snakes to me are cooling, soothing and full of feminine energy. I always feel at my best, most centered and self-assured when I've got one of my 'babies' wrapped around me. Their energy does have power, but it's so comfy & not overwhelming at all :)

Snakes. Poisonous snakes, to be specific.

The hotter the snake, the more active they get around me. Not in an aggressive "I'm going to kill and eat you" kind of way, either. Rattlesnake [specifically an Eastern/Western cross] is my shadow totem [tho' I've gone to great lengths to incorporate the energies], and I used to be terrified of them. Like phobia terrified. Now, I can stand and watch them for hours in a zoo. No, I don't EVER want to face one in the wild, particularly if it's pissed off, but I respect them more than I ever thought I would.

I've never encountered rattlesnake (also never had the honour of drawing or writing a file for rattlesnake), but everything I know about them make them seem like a very challenging totem for many people.

Rattlesnake is incredibly challenging for me in a lot of ways, or was initially. But I've come to the conclusion [at least initially] that it's all about standing one's ground and defending oneself/one's property. There's definitely far more to it than that, but that's the initial work I've been doing the last several years.

I'm actually working with [livejournal.com profile] shatterpath to create a design for a rattlesnake tattoo that will go on my back. The current idea [as it has been morphing for a while] is the rattle at the base of my spine, two fangs coming from under my hairline [one with a drop of blood, the other with a drop of venom], and a series of the "diamonds" for each chakra point along my spine.

Um, even though I don't work with animal totems (I'm still unsure how to go about doing this or if I've even been doing it right) but snakes/big cats always get me. Every time I see an image of a snake (I love king cobras the most) or a big cat (normally a tiger). Whenever I see Tiger, I get really excited and want to be closer to it. Recently I bought a white tiger plushie and I love it to pieces. But I've loved tigers and snakes since I was a kid.

Big cats, yeah whenever I go to the zoo, I always get an energy smack in the face from the tigers.

Shark. Shark hit me pretty hard, and then took me under his fin for several years. I've always loved them, been fascinated with them, but having that deeper, spiritual experience gives them a whole new meaning. My heart still skips a bit when I see them on TV, or get the opportunity to see them in person at an aquarium.

I find kangaroo to have an oomphy energy. The few times I've met a stag irl they had a REALLY knock me over oomph to them.

I also find birds, especially magpies, pack a wallop with me. Dogs also have a huge impact on me.

I haven't done enough work with dogs to really know, but I imagine certain types of dog have a lot of oomph too.

Though for some reason, I just can't see pomeranian being one of those dogs...

Hehe, no, that's probably why they're so yappy - to make up for it!

Alligator has lots of ooomph when I meet him/her. Gator is neither friendly nor mean...but there is a huge sense of "I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to devour you, spiritually or physically, if the chance came." Gator in my mind is one of the lords of the southeastern wetlands.

Crocodile has an awful amount of 'oomph' for me too, I'm glad crocodile isn't a long-term guide for me basically... not that crocodile has ever been mean or anything, it's just... yeah, a LOT of power.
