Original for sale - POA
Crescent illustrator's board, technical pens, pencil and aquarelle, metallic paint.

Taken with camera flash, so that you can see the way the costume lights up depending on lighting. Andre Leon Talley would probably call it gauche, but I love it darling, I love it.

In a way, I am so disappointed with the level of detail that my camera just literally can't pick up, because flash washes out the image (the bane of so many artists; flash photography), and because I don't have a steady enough hand for natural lighting. Might have to suck it up and get a tripod.

Re: Beautiful!
Date: 2010-10-14 01:17 pm (UTC)I've always been quick with colouring. I have to be, in many ways. Illustrator's board has taught me to be fast, since - when it comes to watercolour washes - the water just disappears and to get a smooth wash, you need to move very very quickly.
But colouring for me is just not that time-consuming anymore. With years and years of my particular fineliner -> watercolour pencil -> pencil style under my belt, what would've taken me 30 hours in the past takes a fraction of that now.
I think that's one of the signs of a professional artist. My 'hourly' rate becomes reasonable, because it just doesn't take me a ridiculous amount of time to turn out detailed artwork.
Though it has got me thinking about what a 30 hour piece of art of mine would look like, these days. Lol.

Date: 2010-10-14 09:15 am (UTC)If you want to borrow a tripod, I have a full-size one that I don't use currently. Also a gorillapod that's gathering dust :)

Date: 2010-10-16 07:49 am (UTC)That'd be awesome with the tripod. What's a gorillapod? Is that that distance clicky thingy?
Man, you and I just so have to hang out in general. I've been holing up hardcore lately because of all the artwork I've been doing and mental stuff and blah blah blah, but I think I'm out of the worst of that now.

Date: 2010-10-14 09:53 am (UTC)BTW, you can probably find a tripod for reasonably cheap on eBay or such. I think my husband got his for $20 and it attaches to most digital cameras.

Date: 2010-10-14 12:14 pm (UTC)And I'm a little freaked out at how I keep getting goosebumps looking at this piece - that /never/ happens, certainly not repeatedly. It's really just wow. I don't know who Andre Leon Talley is, but I don't think he (?) and I see eye to eye :) The photo with flash is aMAZing!
And the layers upon layers of foxes really gets me. (Among other things.)

Date: 2010-10-14 02:41 pm (UTC)As for taking pictures of art....it is always very very tricky, but even with all of the complications, you still tend to turn out awesome photographs of your stunning work. :)
*hugs and will email soon*

Date: 2010-10-16 07:53 am (UTC)And yeah, picture taking is tricky. Have you ever worked with a tripod before? Yours must be especially hard, because a flash photo with an acrylic or oil piece must bring out the paint stroke textures and create areas of shine / washed outness. I can't imagine anything more frustrating.

Date: 2010-10-15 01:49 am (UTC)A tripod might be a good investment. It's not worth the frustration to work hard on something and then not be able to get a good photo or digital image of it.
