Glen and I got some unexpected bad news yesterday, and it's been a pretty bleak end of the year. On top of that, several close friends are going through awful, or truly tragic circumstances. So I decided to make a playlist of songs that cheer me up.

I hope some of them cheer you up too. :)

Very unfortunately, Dreamwidth is not letting me embed the Grooveshark widget; but you can follow this URL directly to the playlist, and then press 'play all.'

A shot for shot LEGO remake of LCD Soundsystem's All My Friends:

The original is here for comparison.

Oh. I miss you LCD Soundsystem. And I never thought I would.

I love Ok Go.
I love dogs doing awesome dog-training things.
I love the song White Knuckles.

What do you get when you put it all together in a music video? AWESOMENESS!!!

ETA: Most of the dogs in that video are rescues (and there's a banner at the end of the video supporting rescue dogs!) - http://www.okgo.net/dogs/

When I started getting piano lessons, I had a choice between studying just general piano (scales + songs) or studying as a concert pianist (scales + songs + hand movements + posture + scales + drills + scales + drills). I chose the latter. Even at 18, when I got my piano with the funds from my sold, 22 year old, white Honda Civic (flashbacks rendering it undriveable), I wanted to do it right.

It took me a long time to learn the natural motion of slurs. Staccato I found easier, but slurs were a longer time coming. Oh, I could thread notes together, but the rise and fall of the elbow, the 'just so' and then swing of the wrist, was more complex for me.

One day I got it 'right.'

And ever since then, when I type on the keyboard, especially when I am typing urls or switching between tabs, I find myself 'slurring' the actions together. Pushing my keyboard to sing.

Oh, my piano, I miss you. $500 and I will get you here one day, I promise, my dear Kate.

So Dayve Hawk, of Memory Tapes fame, has a blog and a Twitter.

I can die happy.

I want to live inside this guy's brain (oh, and Matt Pryor. Cannot forget Matt Pryor).

Sometimes I listen to the kind of music people don't generally expect me to. Even Glen. I wish everyone would listen to it though.

Memory Tapes is all up in everyone's faces being critically acclaimed (seriously, Pitchfork wet itself, over this album), but mostly, I was all up in it's face because I just loved. It. So. Damn. Much.

But the reality is no one's heard of the awesomeness of Dayve Hawk, pretty much.
