Firstly, a big thank you to those who have pimped artwork, bought artwork, and that one special person who donated money (you know who you are, *epic hugs to you*) for this. Thank you so much for your prayers, well wishes and thoughts, it is so touching to realise how many hearts Maybe has found her way into in such a short amount of time. :)

Maybe has made it through surgery, and is just waking up now.

We're allowed to go visit her around five/five thirty, but she'll be in overnight for at least one night of observation. I'll bring my camera with me and see if she's up for a no-flash photo, but otherwise I'll take a photo of the crap they pulled out of her intestine, since we're gonna dissect it together, like a big party of 'the crap from Maybe's intestinal tract'.

The necklace she ate wasn't actually the problem, and it was likely she ate the fabric trying to flush out the two other objects she ate, which none of us have any idea about (not like we could have, her behaviour didn't start changing until late last night). They are greeny blue, and fuzzy, apparently. We think it may have been part of a cat toy (we're progressing onto small Kongs and Wubba Kongs for her anyway, with her teething/chewing habits, normal cat toys are becoming 'death traps,' literally).

In the meantime, Dr. Barry asked us who had her sterilised; and we were like 'no idea, she was a rescue kitten (i.e. she was sterilised, vaccinated and microchipped before we got her), it'll say on her vaccination form.' The original vet who sterilised her left remnants an ovary and a piece of uterine lining inside of her, which - uncool!

Incidentally, the place where she was originally sterilised was Ocean Keys Vet Hospital.

I am pretty stressed out, but grateful, today has been an ordeal for all of us. Our athletic, slightly insane, intelligent, loving beauty has only been with us for three and a half months, but she's already made a huge impact on us.

Except for Moet. Moet is dealing with her absence just fiiiiine. Heh.

Meanwhile, I suppose it will be 'cone of shame' (I do not like the cone of shame) for about two weeks; which I've already dealt with before with cats (i.e. when Smokey had an eye removed, which was another 'epically major' surgery, but then, he got caught up in a hit and run where the driver didn't stop...). Poor Maybe. She's had a rough life. Left on the side of the road in the middle of bushland with her two sisters. Saved thirty minutes before being slated for euthanasia.

And unwanted by everyone except Glen and I because from some angles she is a tad cross-eyed and apparently 'boring looking' despite being a 'vet thinks it likely' bengal cross, and having those killer ear tufts, and finally stuck with a family who bombards her with cuddles, hugs, love, toys, cat towers, and an older brother for her to boss around, and clearly greeny blue fuzzy things for her to eat. And now, major abdominal surgery and randoms playing around in her insides, plus the cone of shame. Eesh.

I am so glad we get to visit our girl this afternoon.

As usual, more to come...

Ha, someone thinks Maybe is BORING-looking? That just seems ridiculous.

I'm glad Maybe is all right. :) Hopefully she'll feel well enough to come home soon!

Not just someone, many someones. She was rejected by other foster Mums because of being tabby (as were her sisters), and then before we came along and said 'we'll take her' something like fifteen people had rejected her beforehand.

I hope she can come home soon too! Though I'm also very glad she's staying for observation too, since they know best how to keep her out of pain, and relaxed. I can't wait for her to start eating. Seeing Maybe off her food was devastating. Usually she treats eating as an Olympic event of awesomeness, complete with plenty of warm-ups by meowing at us beforehand.

Many fools, says I. More awesome-kitty-Maybe-ness for you and Glen, though, so "Yay fools!"

Except for Moet. Moet is dealing with her absence just fiiiiine. Heh.

Pfft, he's just trying to maintain his suave and nonchalant reputation, y'know. ;)

Yay, I am so glad she made it through the op ok!

People didn't want her because she is "boring" looking? I think she has a beautiful face! And how can anyone call her spotty tummy boring?

We got her for her laidback 'nothing in life bothers me' temperament (little did we know that would translate into 'oh it totally doesn't bother me to climb the fridge'), the looks were just a very pleasant bonus.

But nothing phases her. Except for the vet taking her temperature. That would phase anyone.

I'm so glad Maybe is pulling through. Wealtheow is glad too, and expresses her sympathy for the cone.

Boring-looking? Noooo! Maybe is beautiful!

Oh wow...such a relief! I am so happy to hear that Maybe is going to pull through just fine. Poor baby.

I pimped your sites like, well, a pimp. And I really want to buy an original piece from you but I want to commission a "totem" portrait of my Kiba even more. Let me know if this is something you'd be interested in.

I'm so glad she pulled through.

I would have been planning for the most extensive option like you too, but emotionally and financially I think you always hope otherwise in those kind of situations.

You're a great kitty mom. :} *hugs*

I can't help but think those fifteen people who said 'no' to Maybe before you were doing so because you guys were meant to have her. She's such a good fit in your family, and you with her. (I know Moet might disagree, sometimes at least lol, but... :) )

It's always amazed me what animals can eat and be okay with, and then sometimes they'll eat just one more thing and it doesn't go through at all. Max has a plastic knife, the wood handle of a chisel, possibly at least one battery, and God knows what else in there. None of it ever passed, but I called the vet asap after each and they told me to just watch for any issues and see what happened. (They were particularly curious about the knife, and I don't think they believed me. I'm not sure I ever believed it, but that knife was never found again so...)

That was when he was a year old or so maybe. Nowadays I don't think that would fly, not that he tries anymore. :)

Yeah, the obstruction was part of a cat toy, and the vet has asked us to call the store and let them know that that toy that cost us $10 will now cost us in excess of $1700. :/

And the vet that sterilised her left a whole ovary in there, and chances are she was producing at least some hormones, like an unspayed female. :/

In a way, its a good thing this happened then. Otherwise you were probably going to have to deal with health issues to do with the sloppy sterilisation surgery later on!

The vet said he'd never seen anything like it before, and to call up the place where it happened and let them know, just in case.

The vet had also left a suture inside of her. :/ Uncool. Very uncool.

Much more than uncool. Fuck. Poor Maybe. You'll have to let us know whether her behavior changes much now that she's been properly desexed.

> Except for Moet. Moet is dealing with her absence just fiiiiine. Heh.
Cats are great at being callous bastards by human standards. ;) After Maggie, our old german shepherd/collie mix, died, Kieran, my fluffy kitty she used to bully, could not have seemed happier. Even a year later he's all, "Yeah, I totally love this dog-free house. *purr*"

> Meanwhile, I suppose it will be 'cone of shame' (I do not like the cone of shame) for about two weeks; which I've already dealt with before with cats
A lot of the time, Maybe sounds like Mogget, and Mogget turned the cone of shame into another toy/tool. I'm sure Maybe will have her fun. ;)

> And unwanted by everyone except Glen and I because from some angles she is a tad cross-eyed and apparently 'boring looking'
I know it's probably terrible of me, but I can't stand people who buy a pet based on how pretty it is, like their shopping for a fucking christmas ornament. FFFfft.

Good gods, a whole lot has happened to Maybe since I last read LJ! What an adventure! Poor girl!

I cannot conceive of not wanting a kitten of such silly reasons. I'm not sure I've ever looked at a kitten or young cat and thought of any reasons that have to do with physical appearance as to why we could not take in said kitten or young cat. This might explain why we have eight, but... Personally, I find the slightly cross-eyed appearance endearing, it it brings me back to when Prin was a kitten. And, omg the ear tufts!

YAY for Maybe!!

It's wonderful to hear that she's pulled through just fine. (I was certain she would, she's young and strong and you got her appropriate help in time, but I know you can't help but worry in this situation.) Surprise! (and not in a good way) about the non-necklace items, but by the same token it's ultimately a very good thing that they opened her up and got the tissue left behind from the spay. That could have become septic, or even cancerous, and the vet who was so careless (doubtless thinking "cheap spay/homeless kitten/can rush") deserves a good boot up the backside for professional ineptitude.

Now I can only hope for the smoothest possible resolution for all of you.

Ah, I remember the cone of shame with my Eddie..he looked like Queen Elizabeth with her broad collar.
As everyone is saying, she's not even remotely boring looking- I love that intelligent, confident cross eyed expression! I'm glad the surgery was a success, and that she's perservered against the odds once again- best wishes for a long and happy life for her!

BIG YAYS! that Maybe is fine!!!!!! ((((((and big hugs to you all)))))) :)

Also....the vet that sterilized her....is epic fail and worthy of investigation. Maybe your vet will say something to someone, or inquire about the situation himself?

(((((happy, relieved loves))))))) :)

boring looking? really? Got to say I love her colouring and she has amazing stripes and markings...

plenty of other cats out there that are more boring than that...

mind you two of the five kittens we have were essentially pure white... which is a bit boring, lucky for them they have very definitely personalities.
