Fox Totem (Fox broke my art bone!)

I've actually put this information up before. So for those who are interested:
Fox as Totem

Colouring this fully broke my art bone. Ugh. It's so fucking *dense* in real life. And bright. And shiny.
I'm happy with it. Fox is happy with it.

Date: 2008-01-20 05:14 am (UTC)It's funny - Fox and I have been dancing with one another for years. Bear and Coyote are both very blunt, outspoken energies - Bear tells some harsh, healing truths and Coyote is, well... in some stories, he's like the Dirty Old Man. There are whole collections about Coyote's adventurous penis. But Fox energy is all about discretion for me. Knowing the truth but not necessarily needing to speak it, or keeping an opinion to oneself... leaving things best left unsaid, unsaid. I've also had some kitsunes energy in my life - also a trickster, but one gentler & more discreet than Coyote - and also more liberating. This painting really speaks all of those sides of Fox, and does it well.
I also think it's funny in your write-up of the shadow side of Fox how you say experiencing this energy can make one not want to use talents or skills to get ahead of the game. I was just talking to Rob last night about it - how I must be obnoxious for other people to work with because when I know how to do something well, I can make it seem so effortless. I usually try not to excel in the workplace because I don't want to make other people look bad.

We have a ridiculous amount of red foxes in Australia, so many, that we have more than some of the places where they're native. Yet so many people have never even seen a red fox. Feral dogs, cats, horses, sheep? Sure. Foxes? Even though they're considerably more urban? Not a thing.
And I've been bushwalking for years and years, in different places, and have only seen two.
Invisibility and stealth seemed dead giveaways for me. :)

Also, the fox has a great foxy energy. :) Excellent, as always!

Ps. Does any anybody actually say wicked anymore? Am I showing my age?
