The Colour the Clouds Turned

This was taken at the very beginning of it rolling into Ellenbrook. The cats were outside, there had been no sign of rain, but I already felt like I was underwater.

It wrapped around the bowl of the sky.

Here's the aqua glow from a distance. I'd never seen anything quite like it. And in that little bowl of aqua, flashes of lightning behind the clouds could *constantly* be seen.

The rainbow that framed our house, or:

'And Lo, Pia and Glen Would Move Into Malvern Springs. And God Called It Good.'

It was SO BIG that I couldn't get the whole thing in shot, no matter what I did. And it was perfectly centred over our house. Madness.

The sunset of that day (this was literally what you saw when you faced the opposite direction).

I love this one. It would have been my 'photo of the day' if I didn't love that cloud shot so much.

The lighting stained everything it touched.

Nature's Palette

Today's sunset.

WOW. Goosebumps. The clouds!

The runner-up for Photo of the Day is awesomely surreal. I love it when the light is like that.

Standing outside, looking directly up at them was amazing. Especially with all the flickers of lightning. You could tell the sky was gearing up for something big. Ten minutes later the sky cracked open and the rains came.

All sorts of coolness. I wish we could have a storm :-(

I wish we could have more! Perth had less (from what I can remember) thunderstorms and electrical activity than usual this year. So maybe this was making up for it. Heh.

Do you get many electrical storms where you live?

That's a good way of putting it. Watching those clouds roll over was like... 'eeeesh.' Heh.

Wow! Those are some gorgeous shots of the clouds, despite the storm they brought with them. And the double rainbow is very kewl! I love finding those.

Heh, the double rainbow is awesome. We get a few of them here. And I've seen a triple rainbow once.

I know right? I loved them. My first few pictures were just the 'feeling underwater' cloud shots, and then I saw the aqua glow and was like WTF?

Heh.

If you painted a picture with those colours, people would tell you it looked 'fake'.

Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for posting them.

Wow, amazing photos! I particularly like the first and the second-to-last. I'm also happy to hear that you and yours fared unscathed (except for dealing with a power outage).

The first is my favourite, though there's a couple of dust spots that need fixing. I might need to take my camera in for a service, actually.

Beautiful pics! Would you mind if I made 'Nature's Palette' into a LJ icon (with proper credit of course!)?

I think this is your best group of sky photos yet! I love them all, but the aqua glow and the way you photographed it so it did look like you were underwater really drew me in. :)

Wooow.

I love storms so much. It's one of the few things I miss about Ohio. We get storms in Colorado, but not as often as in Ohio, and they're not usually as epic.

Those cloud and sunset shots are amazing.

*envy!*

We didn't get almost any electrical storms last year, I felt so cheated.

And then 'worst storm in Perth's history' comes along. Lol. 'Thanks for the OVER-COMPENSATION, NATURE!'

*grin*

oh Wow.. i miss storms so much. I love them, even when they are destructive.

Those pictures are incredible. i have never seen skies with that aqua color... we get some strange greens sometimes, but not aqua.

I've not seen the aqua/turquoise colour before either. Closer to the coast, they got a whole sky of it, in sections.

Oh my gods.. those are all incredible! That aqua glow... holy christ. I've never seen anything like that either. The sky there is so amazing it BLOWS my mind!

Lightning/thunder storms are my favourite. :D I hope we get lots of them this Summer up here!

These are utterly breathtaking. I'm adding this entry to my memories.

The second to last picture of the clouds rather reminds me of something I'd enjoy painting.

I must admit, I've looked at the eighty shots I took yesterday (these are just the selection) and I find myself thinking 'reference photos!' for pastel work.

You know, I look at some of these and think 'god made clouds for people who love working in watercolour.'
