[Art] Two Foxes.
Feb. 21st, 2010 08:40 amTwo Foxes
For someone who can be pretty prolific, I've been in a bit of an art funk lately. But while I've been in this art funk, I've been slowly working on this picture.
I've seen two foxes in my life, in varying forms, in varying ways, for years now. In dreams, when I journey, in the wild. So I thought I'd draw them. :)

Yes, you can buy this one as a print after all!
38 x 51cm / 15 x 20 in
Original for sale - $297.00 USD/AUD
Crescent illustrator's board, 0.5/0.1 technical pen, pearlescent liquid acrylic, pigment, aquarelle, coloured pencil
Photo with flat colour

Photo with flash - in this one, you can see the subtler pearlescent pigments thrown into the mix, both in the white pearl, salmon pearl and lilac pearl in the wind swirls, and also in the copper/green of the energy circles in the foxes, which look brown in daylight, and sheen up to a greeny tone in night or artificial light.

Date: 2010-02-21 01:44 am (UTC)Darn my current economic woes. I've promised myself I'd save up all my 'fun money' for my trip in march. But after that...ohhh yes I'm getting a print of this.

Date: 2010-02-21 04:34 am (UTC)I think I like it in part because it reminds me of home (tall grasses and the wind in the field behind my parents' house).

Date: 2010-02-21 07:33 am (UTC)As soon as I'm done on this project later this year, I'm hitting pen and ink to recover.
I see an amazing vibrance and life in all your work. And all the little details take me on a little trip through the picture. And they're always perfect.
I actually am starting to think realism is for people whose skill has surpassed their imaginations, are feeling jaded and exhausted with the whole artistic process and have found themselves painted into a corner where they don't know what else to do.
Er...or maybe that's just me.

Date: 2010-02-21 08:05 am (UTC)Also, if you had the time, no stress, a secure home environment and income, I am SURE you would find more ways to express yourself. I find - personally - I need a great deal of internal energy to try something new (that isn't just 'fixing up a mistake and discovering a new technique by accident', lol). It's hard stuff!

Date: 2010-02-21 08:32 am (UTC)Given a chance to do whatever, right now I think I'd be using coloured pencils and pen and ink to make something utterly different to anything I'm doing now. I feel like my digital stuff is all stale.
If I keep going with painterly realism (and I'm not sure I want to, but I might feel differently after a break) I think I'd prefer to try with oils.
It probably sounds stupid, but what I'm doing right now is making me feel a bit like a fraud. There's less and less of 'me' in every picture. 8-\

To be honest, with a great deal of my stuff, I'm feeling the same. Even the animal totems - which I'll keep doing - don't feel as satisfactory anymore. There needs to be *more*, like we're ready for another level maybe.

(Well, no, that's not all. But the colours in the foxes fur is amazing. <3!!)
