Two Foxes

For someone who can be pretty prolific, I've been in a bit of an art funk lately. But while I've been in this art funk, I've been slowly working on this picture.

I've seen two foxes in my life, in varying forms, in varying ways, for years now. In dreams, when I journey, in the wild. So I thought I'd draw them. :)

Yes, you can buy this one as a print after all!

38 x 51cm / 15 x 20 in
Original for sale - $297.00 USD/AUD
Crescent illustrator's board, 0.5/0.1 technical pen, pearlescent liquid acrylic, pigment, aquarelle, coloured pencil

Photo with flat colour

Photo with flash - in this one, you can see the subtler pearlescent pigments thrown into the mix, both in the white pearl, salmon pearl and lilac pearl in the wind swirls, and also in the copper/green of the energy circles in the foxes, which look brown in daylight, and sheen up to a greeny tone in night or artificial light.

I so, so, so, so, so want to be able to afford this. But I can't. *is sad* will have to settle for print. :( Maybe one day me and Sidhe can save up for a commission, just not possible right now.

And I so, so, so want to be able to buy it for you. If only it were closer to August, we could save up and get it for your birthday.

We'll have to get the print.

Would you ever consider plant allies as commission work subjects?

I've actually worked with plant totems before; so yeah. It really depends on the plant spirit themselves though and if they want to work with me.

Thank you. Where do you announce your commission availability, so that the next time there is a spot I can pounce and see if what I want is something you would and would enjoy doing?

The next time I open for commissions formally, I'll likely do it as a limited run through Etsy here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/ravensdreaming

Though everything gets spun through Livejournal first. :)

Is this the same fox couple you saw during your gathering of "rescue Ehrembi" materials?

Oh lords, it's beautiful.

Darn my current economic woes. I've promised myself I'd save up all my 'fun money' for my trip in march. But after that...ohhh yes I'm getting a print of this.

They Smolder...

I get the feeling that from now on, whenever I picture a grass fire, I will see foxes.

I really, really love the sky in this. The foxes are amazing, with their burning-bush tails, and I like the seeds in the grasses, but I keep getting drawn back to the sky... :)

I feel the same way. The sky is full of awesomeness.

That is really gorgeous! I love the texture and detail in the grass - I almost didn't see the flower/seed heads at first. I wasn't expecting it to be as dark as it is (the sky portion), but the colors are so rich! And the sense of wind and longing/peace/shelter.

I think I like it in part because it reminds me of home (tall grasses and the wind in the field behind my parents' house).

I love the colors in this one, with both the brilliant red/orange right in the center and the pearly colors in the wind swirls offset by the cool, dark background. I like the touch of green grass on the two edges too. Your compositions and colors are always great. :D

You know, I look at the intense realism and beautiful colouring of your art and wonder why you think mine is awesome - it's so blocky in contrast! *blush*

Don't get me wrong, I like my art, but... yeah. Heh.

Oh god, don't get me started on how much I HATE my art right now.
As soon as I'm done on this project later this year, I'm hitting pen and ink to recover.

I see an amazing vibrance and life in all your work. And all the little details take me on a little trip through the picture. And they're always perfect.

I actually am starting to think realism is for people whose skill has surpassed their imaginations, are feeling jaded and exhausted with the whole artistic process and have found themselves painted into a corner where they don't know what else to do.
Er...or maybe that's just me.

A lot of the hatred is surely a product of commissions + home stress, more than the actual art itself though? Your art is exquisite and unique, I've always loved it. :) And your work shows a great deal of imagination too, it's just you can bring forth your images with realism if you choose - and it can make your pictures all the more impacting for that reason.

Also, if you had the time, no stress, a secure home environment and income, I am SURE you would find more ways to express yourself. I find - personally - I need a great deal of internal energy to try something new (that isn't just 'fixing up a mistake and discovering a new technique by accident', lol). It's hard stuff!

You know, right now it's the art itself. More and more I'm finding that I'm not connecting with the realism or doing art digitally.
Given a chance to do whatever, right now I think I'd be using coloured pencils and pen and ink to make something utterly different to anything I'm doing now. I feel like my digital stuff is all stale.

If I keep going with painterly realism (and I'm not sure I want to, but I might feel differently after a break) I think I'd prefer to try with oils.

It probably sounds stupid, but what I'm doing right now is making me feel a bit like a fraud. There's less and less of 'me' in every picture. 8-\

Your work would look SO amazing in oils. I think oils, or water-based oils could be so so good for you. Traditional oils are great though, because you can take your time, leave a picture sometimes for months before getting back to it.

To be honest, with a great deal of my stuff, I'm feeling the same. Even the animal totems - which I'll keep doing - don't feel as satisfactory anymore. There needs to be *more*, like we're ready for another level maybe.

omg... i just got my tax return. After I check out the bills (in a couple weeks) I should be able to *finally* afford a print and I know which one it will have to be. :)

Not only does this speak to my foes but the tones are perfect.
