The bone is intact, and it didn't break the skin (much), but all in all, those are the best things I can say about it. It's epically swollen, and it went dark blue / black instantly.
And what I did? Because I was so out of it? Continued to walk around the park with Mum and my brother.
Nah, the bruising has gone down overnight, and not up, and it doesn't really hurt that much. I think I would have if it was broken or bleeding, but it seems to be on the mend.
Can you put it (gently!) through the whole normal range of motion (barring swelling)? If you can, and if you can feel the tip when you put gentle pressure on it no permanent damage will have been done.
Oh yeah, I could bend it immediately after the incident (as stupid as it may be to do, I always want to know if something's broken and it really looked like it could've been). But I can type on it this morning, feel the tip, and aside from a bit of weirdness in feeling because of the swelling (and a bluish haze to the finger), everything is okay.
It's a miracle though. The blow to the little finger was mediated by my ring finger. I have a habit of separating my little finger from my body, and if I'd done that yesterday, it would have been properly broken or crushed. The car door actually properly closed on it. *shudder*
This is a relief to hear! I once inadvertently shut the truck door on my index finger. The door shut fully and the lock was engaged. :P
It was easier to pull my finger through the (thankfully large) gap then trying to get the keys from my right pocket with my left hand and open the door with my body wedged against it. I'm right handed and it was my right index caught in the door. No, I don't know how I managed it (other than that I tend to wrap my hand around the door to just close it with as much force as necessary, no more). My finger was bruised and hurt a fair bit, but no actual damage was done and it healed cleanly (unlike another injury to my right ring finger, where I almost tore it off at the second digit -- that hurt for years after when the weather changed). Soaking in tepid salt water can also sometimes help to bring oedema down a little.
that hurt for years after when the weather changed
The toe I broke last year (by stubbing it into Glen's bed while painting the house) hurts in Winter. My knee can too, but as more time goes between the second reconstruction, it hurts less and less. I think the bone is finally healing.
