I'm not sure if any of you are aware outside of Australia, but currently there are 20 out of control bushfires of epic proportions raging in Victoria. Over 50 people have lost their lives, and that's a conservative estimate. It already has a Wikipedia article - which reports 65 dead and 640 homes burnt to the ground.

As well as the victims of this tragedy, can you please keep my friend and spiritual brother-in-arms [livejournal.com profile] riven_scythe in your thoughts at this time; he's currently got all his belongings packed with his family and is waiting to see if they'll need to evacuate their house, as the fires are predicted to hit their area soon.

Yesterday, the fires moved too quick for people to have any time to get out. hence, why some people died fried in their cars. It's quite a scary thought..

My thoughts have been with the folks of Oz since hearing about the fires. :-(
May [livejournal.com profile] riven_scythe and his family be safe and their home stay standing.

I've been keeping an eye on them as well-- the Hunter fires aren't that far from me. Too far to see or smell the smoke, but still close to my general area. I am thankful once again that I live in one of the wettest areas of the state.

I'll send some good thoughts to [livejournal.com profile] riven_scythe and his family.

There's supposed to be a southerly chnage tonigt, but I am afraid it'll just blow the fires up more. No rain in the forecast for the Hunter 'til Tuesday night. :-( Hope VIC ad SA get some relief.

I was not aware. I've been pretty out of touch with the news lately, in general. Thanks for letting me know and I will certainly keep your friend in my thoughts.

Here's to hoping the Great Mystery sends some of our rain your way. I know how terrifying wild fires can be, and I hope as many people, pets & livestock can make it to safety as possible.

It's incredible. My heart is with those who've been affected by the fires, insofar as it's possible to feel for people I don't personally know. But I'm just horrified about it.

Listening to the Major of Victoria talk; it's definitely the worst 'bushfire' in Australian heat. There may be as many as 112 dead. Emergency services can't even get into some of the towns yet to do a body count / houses destroyed count. :/

What's so so sad are the families who were burnt in their homes, and those who were evacuating in their cars and never made it.

Western Australia is expected to get hit pretty hard by bushfires this week; but not as badly as Victoria. We don't get anything like those fires over here.

The irony? The North part of Australia is currently devastated by floods / flash-flooding.

I can't help but think of the desperate throes of a maddened, hurting beast of some epic proportions.

It's really kind of scary. I can't dream of anything else these days.

Wow. Living in such an arid place, it never really occurs that such fires can rage anywhere but here and, like California (even that boggles). Hopefully they can get these under control before [livejournal.com profile] riven_scythe and his family must leave, and before more lose their lives.

I just...wow. Be careful in your journeys, friend. These can't be good for the spirit realms any more than they are the physical.

Thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Wildfires scare the hell out of me. I hope the bushland recovers, and the affected people can recover their lives. I hope the fires stop raging soon, and that your friend remains safe. I hope the dead find their way to their next destination with relative ease.

Damn. I think I'd rather keep the floods than deal with a fire. I hope the death toll doesn't increase any more dramatically, that's already a pretty nasty number.

All thoughts and prayers much appreciated, everyone *mass hugs*.

At this point we're sitting relatively safe in Seymour, with major thanks to the Goulburn River and all the efforts of those fighting the fires. There isn't a heck of a lot of information available to us at the moment (the DSE and CFA websites are a joke for trying to get information on fire locations).

At the moment, they're expecting over 200 dead, but it'll be a while before they get the fires under control enough to be able to access all areas to locate victims.

Much love and thanks,
Riven
