Problem behind repeat Ellenbrook blackouts located, potential fix in sight

ETA: The problem of the Ellenbrook power cuts will also be covered on 7 News tonight.

ETA 2: I found this quote from another update on the situation interesting:

"Western Power assures me it is not a question of system overload or insufficient capacity. They have now sent their testing equipment overseas to be recalibrated and checked and have now isolated the faulty cable i.e. taken it out of service." (Which seems like bullshit to me, but we'll see).

So basically, the whole problem is that the idiots over on the power company have been too damn cheap to fix a cable they've known needed replacing for the past three years now?

Oh, that's beautiful.

I know I don't live in Australia or anything, but you guys really can't afford to keep having the power outages in the middle of summer like that. Not with your heat and weather.

Here's hoping that the problem gets fixed soon, hun.

And we're going to keep having blackouts over the next six weeks (i.e. hottest weeks over the year) while they fix it, because the back up generators need to be manually turned on (which will take around two hours), and don't automatically kick in.

but you guys really can't afford to keep having the power outages in the middle of summer like that.

It's not something any other suburb in WA is experiencing in the same way right now, but yeah. I can't wait for it to be FIXED, and properly this time.

So, will they fix this cable now?

Yeah, it'll take 6 weeks, and there will be regular power outages during that time (during the hottest 6 weeks of the Perth Summer, whee). I found out yesterday that some of the elderly actually needed to be hospitalised during the 13 hour blackout, and many people had their computers, TVs, and fridges blow out completely.
