I really miss this style of pastels, which was my predominant style in highschool, actually. Part of the 'Animals are Magic' series, of which Thylacine and Numbat are previously a member. Before that, I had a lot of artwork, particularly of brolga, done like this. It's been a long long time since I worked on black paper (which presents its own challenges), but I think I'll be doing it again soon.

The Teumessian Fox, from the Greek cosmology, is a fox that can never be caught. Zeus, getting kind of sick of him, sent Laelaps, the dog who always caught his charge after him. They ended up in a loop that frustrated Zeus, who turned them both to stone and preserved them in the stars.

Oh, this is gorgeous! I love artwork on black paper like this. It just makes the colors that much more vibrant and alive. And I really like the coloring and the expansiveness of this piece.

Star fox :-) I likes it. The pastels are interesting too, I've never done much with pastels, but they sure give this an interesting appearance. Hopefully they come in black and white.

I've been avoiding my usual haunts during the holidays, so I just saw this.

Oh. Wow. Oh my goodness! I loved loved loved Thylacine and Numbat and Brolga.

And $145 is in my budget for 'I'd pay that for her artwork!' It's not underpricing it, is it? I seem to recall you wanted to value things properly, but I guess pastel work in this style doesn't involve the same kind of intense detail that others do.

But I can't buy it now, I'm saving up for a big out-of-town convention trip in three months. I'll need every drop. But I'm going to remember it!

I'm not underpricing at all, even with the more expensive materials like pastels, this is no way as labour intensive as my other styles.

I plan on doing more animals like this, too. :)
