I toyed with the idea of calling it 'deer little brother,' but I thought that would be lame. So I didn't...

Dear Little Brother

Based on the fairytale, 'Little Brother & Little Sister,' told by the Grimm brothers.

The sister holds her brother, wounded in the hunt. She looks out onto the world, defiant but also resigned to a cruel fate; dependent on the bounty of the the wild to survive, and the mercy of others.

Detail of the roe deer. There are like four bazillion colours in that head.

Wow... just wow. I am so in love with all the subtle colour's in the sister's hair. It's amazing how warm all the greens look!

Heh, the greens were one of the most frustrating and yet rewarding parts of the picture. I'm glad people like them!

Oh my gosh, this work is so amazing. The richness of the colors add so much to this painting. And color adds a lot to how sad she is. i think this is my favorite of everything you've done so far.

How do you feel about it now that it's done?

I feel closer, energetically, to the Gretel piece that I did. But I'm satisfied with the execution of this piece, and artistically pushed myself in some new directions; so I'm happy with it for that. :)

*blush* It's just pigment on glorified paper. Although I like her too.

It's like a Snow White gone bad.

Reminds me of winter despite the flowers. Very cool.

Haha, I don't know if I'm going to do Snow White (although, maybe I will, if I can find a way to eliminate the dwarves from the portrait).

That is absolutely gorgeous! The coloring is beautiful, and I really like the multitude of colors in both the deer's head and sister's hair. Nicely done!

I do too, I think there's something so sacred and so...pagan about most fairytales (especially in their older incarnation). I'm loving this series. :D

$600 USD, though I'm hoping to also get it framed and approach galleries with this and the Gretel piece.

ohgodthegreens

The colours alone make me want to buy this. And the contrast. And the thin thin likes of iridescent and metallic the Pia loves so much. And the mottled greens of the background that I love so much I want to eat them or bury my nose in them and smell the green and the damp earth of a forest and the moss or give them a handjob for being so damn sexy. But I cannot, for I am broke. Working on becoming not-broke.

So glad you like it! And yes, I do love the iridescence, it makes me hard or something, I swear.

Except in the metallic accents, I don't use 'paint' strictly at all. I use watercolour pencils, and then layers of coloured pencil. Everything else is fineliner, and then small amounts of metallic pigment brushed into the spirals at the very end.
