[Art] Dear Little Brother

I toyed with the idea of calling it 'deer little brother,' but I thought that would be lame. So I didn't...

Dear Little Brother

Based on the fairytale, 'Little Brother & Little Sister,' told by the Grimm brothers.

The sister holds her brother, wounded in the hunt. She looks out onto the world, defiant but also resigned to a cruel fate; dependent on the bounty of the the wild to survive, and the mercy of others.

Detail of the roe deer. There are like four bazillion colours in that head.

Wow... just wow. I am so in love with all the subtle colour's in the sister's hair. It's amazing how warm all the greens look!

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, the greens were one of the most frustrating and yet rewarding parts of the picture. I'm glad people like them!

I really love this one.

Oh my gosh, this work is so amazing. The richness of the colors add so much to this painting. And color adds a lot to how sad she is. i think this is my favorite of everything you've done so far.

How do you feel about it now that it's done?

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you feel about it now that it's done?

I feel closer, energetically, to the Gretel piece that I did. But I'm satisfied with the execution of this piece, and artistically pushed myself in some new directions; so I'm happy with it for that. :)

It's just amazing. You are just amazing.

*blush* It's just pigment on glorified paper. Although I like her too.

[identity profile] white9-fox.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
It's like a Snow White gone bad.

Reminds me of winter despite the flowers. Very cool.

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, I don't know if I'm going to do Snow White (although, maybe I will, if I can find a way to eliminate the dwarves from the portrait).

That is absolutely gorgeous! The coloring is beautiful, and I really like the multitude of colors in both the deer's head and sister's hair. Nicely done!

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

[identity profile] erl-queen.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Wonderful! I hope you do a lot more of these fairytale pieces, I have a special fondness for those. :)

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I do too, I think there's something so sacred and so...pagan about most fairytales (especially in their older incarnation). I'm loving this series. :D

[identity profile] secrets-n-lies.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
i love that story

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too, fairytales are win!

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)

*big hugs*

Heh, resting? What resting?

[identity profile] lupabitch.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Just out of curiosity, what are you asking for the original?

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
$600 USD, though I'm hoping to also get it framed and approach galleries with this and the Gretel piece.

Beautiful

ohgodthegreens

The colours alone make me want to buy this. And the contrast. And the thin thin likes of iridescent and metallic the Pia loves so much. And the mottled greens of the background that I love so much I want to eat them or bury my nose in them and smell the green and the damp earth of a forest and the moss or give them a handjob for being so damn sexy. But I cannot, for I am broke. Working on becoming not-broke.

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
or give them a handjob

I laughed. :D

So glad you like it! And yes, I do love the iridescence, it makes me hard or something, I swear.

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
*bounce* :D

[identity profile] vanirpriestess.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
The greens. And the deer's sad eyes. OMFG. <3

wow.... the red bits around the sphere look like beads they have that much depth... and the strands of hair and fur...

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much! :D

You mean "Deer" little brother :)

I know, I know...

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I am pretending you didn't just say that! :P

[identity profile] tsukikokoro.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
The colors have just blown me a way and really made this peace come into its own. I think this is one of the best colorings you've done. :)

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! It was certainly one of the hardest and most challenging. :D

[identity profile] kehleyr.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
WOW... gorgeous! What paint do you use? Acrylics? Either way it is absolutely gorgeous!!!

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Except in the metallic accents, I don't use 'paint' strictly at all. I use watercolour pencils, and then layers of coloured pencil. Everything else is fineliner, and then small amounts of metallic pigment brushed into the spirals at the very end.

[identity profile] dragonsrmd.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
This is just so very beautiful, and if I had *any* money left (I've just moved) I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Oh well I'll just have to admire from afar :)

[identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs* Thank you for the sentiment, it's very much appreciated.

I love this so, so much. Too much for words.
