I am honestly so, so glad I ended up paying the fee to access the full greenhouses. There's an initial greenhouse which is free to access, and I kept seeing pictures of that on the Hidden Scotland instagram (which was what inspired me to go in the first place). It was misleading, but in a really great way, because it didn't indicate how vast and epic the greenhouses were.

Now, something to get out of the way, I know the names of almost none of these plants, and the photos are all out of order. But I love them all the same, and I'm sharing them. There were about, I think, 12 greenhouses in total. One focused on desert landscapes, one had a koi pond, one focused on prehistoric plants and had dinosaur prints in the walkway, one had a bridge and birdsong, etc. They were all - all - exquisite.

We had to cancel about...12 things we really wanted to do after doing too much in Edinburgh ruined my health, and in retrospect, I still think it was worth it to come here.

Some of these greenhouses did such a splendid job of fogging up my glasses, lol. I lost count of how many times I had to take them off, get rid of the fog, and then like, five minutes later, I was seeing through like a misty romantic camera filter.

Despite the fact that there's no people in my photos (I'm patient), they were actually quite busy for a weekday. It was nice.

The main entrance, which is freely accessible for those who want the experience but can't afford the ticket.

This is part of a small series I'd like to do inspired by the recent trip to the UK. The birds pinged a lot harder than anything else did (except for the Gorse). Especially when we were in Orkney. And while we saw a great deal of amazing wildlife, I'm feeling pinged towards the birds, especially the seabirds, whose calls kept me company while I was frequently too sick to walk. Whether it was the gulls in Chichester, the curlews in Orkney, the guillemots at John O'Groats...

Anyway, these will be coloured, and are currently works in progress.
