Ruby Topaz (Hummingbird) as Totem

The Ruby Topaz (Chrysolampis mosquitus), found in South America, is a poorly understood hummingbird that seasonally migrates. It has a notably short bill, when compared to other hummingbirds.

Meerkat as Totem

The meerkat is a social, clan-living animal related to mongooses. They are diurnal and have a distinctive, upright alert posture when they are alarmed, looking after the clan, or aware of danger.

They are immune to scorpion venom, and were made pretty famous as an animal in the popular show Meerkat Manor.

I don't find these animals nearly as cute as most people do... )

Rufous Hare Wallaby as Totem

The rufous hare wallaby, also known as the Mala, has the scientific name Lagorchestes hirsutus (meaning: hairy dancing-hare). They were once listed as Endangered, and have since been downgraded to Vulnerable.

Attempts are being made to re-establish the rufous hare wallaby in the Tanami desert. It currently has populations on Bernier and Dorre islands off the coast of Western Australia.

They are solitary, nocturnal creatures. They are small and gratuitously cute...

I want one! )
