Man, I haven't drawn a person like this... ever.

Lady Ladybug - a faery of ladybugs. *grin* Watercolour pencil, some metallic paint on wings, and illustrator's board.

Thank you, the eyes were a bitch to get right, but in the end I think they turned out the best.

This one is quite disturbing. There are clownish elements in her (and a hint of 101 dalmatians!). Maybe a hint of 1920s chic too?

But it's all underlaid with a terrible tristesse. She's holding secrets behind that painted mouth - but they're being hinted-at in the eyes.

It's uncanny also how the eyes look like shiny carapaces like the Ladybug's shell.

I think of her as a black widow type, since ladybugs are so pretty in real life, but are also vicious carnivores who spend most of their lives travelling from plant to plant, seeking out prey. So it's kinda really cool that you saw a disturbing and also melancholy element to her.

Plus I don't tend to think of fae as being all love and light anyway, even if they are based off pretty beetles. I like a bit of complexity. :)

I'm glad you like it. And yeah, there are hints of 1920s chic in there too. *grin*

TELL me about the ... Good Folk! As you may be aware, I'm dealing with some of them in a story at the moment; and there are some real horrors in the traditions.

There was a wonderful play called The Skriker some years ago by Caryl Churchill, which showed in gory detail what Those Folks can do!

Ooh, it's a Sparkly!

Aw thank you! It took a long time to get the basic sketch / proportion of the head right, and forever to get the eyes how I wanted them, but I think I finally got it in the end. :)

If you want some tips for drawing people, I still have all the ones that I actually found useful saved from my art classes.

If there's one good thing I took from my life drawing class, it was how to draw eyes. I've always loved drawing them, and I'm very particular about detail -- which eyes are full of. So I'm very proud of how my eyes have progressed from knowing just those small things.

Your piece has inspired me about a drawing of my own. However, one would barely know they were connected from how mine's supposed to end up. Hopefully my skillz can meet the requirements for what I want to do in this one. :-P

Oh thank god, I'm so glad, I was thinking about that today with the mad rain (I love the rain though), thankfully bubblewrap offers more protection than most other postpaks, but still yay! :)

Heh, hawt is good. :D
