I loved Edinburgh.

I loved it there. For a week afterwards Glen and I were looking at the possibility of moving to Scotland. Actually, for four weeks afterwards we were doing this. I spent a lot of time on NHS websites and forums trying to work out where the treatment of my SDHD syndrome comes under their treaty with Australia and access to free healthcare (it's not great).

But oh, hilly and not at all accessible but filled with sculpture and art, beautiful architecture, friendly people. The folks in our Airbnb were so lovely, after 5 hours of driving we arrived to a large apartment building, and the check in instructions weren't up to date, and another woman came (who didn't actually own the flat but lived in there) and she helped us, told us where she lived if we needed anything, and as she was talking to us, a couple came over with their pugs and told us what flat they were in, and told us to get them if we needed anything.

Honestly, this was how most of the people we met in Scotland were. Just...really generous.

'yon Empress of the North,' I love you.

By the way, my photos do zero justice. Zero. No justice at all.

The National Portrait Museum, I think.

Lovely signs of spring everywhere.

There were a few of these sort of below ground flats (idk what they're called) and some had areas where they'd done nothing, but then other places turned their little sunken garden spaces into this

This honestly was an insignificant place along a series of apartments and I saw the plaque and took a closer look and was like 'omg' and Edinburgh was like that all the time. Take a closer look, and then 'omg.'

More Edinburgh soon! Also the Prince Street Gardens because OH. OH MY GOD.

Edinburgh is on my list of places to see and I've considered it as a potential place to live just on reputation alone. (I sincerely love London. Leaving aside that at this point I don't think I would do well in a big city Edinburgh could well be "the bits of London I like without the annoyances or the horrendous expense".)
