[Photos] Wildlife - Splendid Fairy Wren and Firetail Finch.

Entirely a post devoted to small, cute birds.
Splendid fairy wrens are currently in breeding plumage,
and the firetail finch was really adorable.
I couldn't believe how lucky I was though
to get some of those male/female shots of the splendid fairy wrens.

I seem to be having a lot of luck lately.

I found this finch really charming, so there's a lot of pictures I apologise.









Male Splendid Fairy Wren and female (sexual dimorphism ftw!) The male was guarding the female pretty aggressively, so they made really good subjects as a result.

The male is mildly floofing his cheek feathers (the pale blue ones), he can puff them all the way out.

We're now heading out of the mating season of course- all the chicks have fledged and flown and our feeders will be quiet until Winter! :o)

Have you drawn a firetail finch? I feel like I've seen it before, but can't think where that may be. In any case, those markings are glorious, and that particular individual looks charming with its oversized bit of straw.

The splendid fairy wren is a well-named little puffball.

I've drawn finches before in pastels, but not painted firetails! They're so amazing. :D

You know the colour on the breast of the male Fairy Wren is unbelievably beautiful to me, but I like the markings on the Firetail Finch particularly. The delicate shading on the cheeks, and the colour extending onto the bill is extraordinary.

The Painted Firetail was really gorgeous, and they're so small, I imagine you'd only get to see tiny flashes of red in the wild.
