[Photos] Sugarloaf Rock / Canal Rocks

I love Sugarloaf Rock? It's like...easily one of my favourite places to visit down south. And Canal Rocks as well. So Glen gets his beaches, and then I get my rocks, lol. I don't know what it is, aside from the fact the landscape is striking, I think it's that in Perth all our beaches are kind of stereotypical 'tourism' beaches, you know - white sand, blue water, sand-dunes with vegetation. Rocky outcrops and formations are rare. So for me, it's not the 'tourism beaches' that appeal most, but the rugged, moody-ass ones.

Rocky beaches are the best. I did geology in first year and while it was overall not the discipline for me I loved the field trip, going down the coast to look at all the different types of rocks.

Oh man, I love the *idea* of geology, but I don't know if I have the discipline for actual geology. But it would have been so awesome to do that field trip. :D

I'm definitely not up for geology at any very high level, luckily since it's not taught in highschool they had to start at a relatively basic level and I enjoyed it as a first year elective where all I had to worry about was passing. When they said "ooh, since you're doing physics as well you should change your major to geophysics..." I ran away back to maths.

I understand why you are enamoured with the place. It has an enormous "presence" in your photos -- potent stuff as well as being very beautiful. I prefer rocky beaches to smooth sand myself, as much as the latter are nice for swimming. For "being" give me rock any day, which might be a reflection of where I live. There is no ocean of course, but big exposed rocks in plenty! :D

Yeah, I don't mind sandy beaches, but...they tend to be awkward to walk upon, and well, they attract tourists in droves from wherever. Heh. And Canal Rocks really does deliver on the presence. Driving down into it you come down a fair slope (for a place with no mountains), and you see it all laid out at least five minutes before you arrive. It's just gorgeous. We always spend way longer here than we initially intend to, lol.
