[Photos] Esperance pt. V (I loved Esperance okay? Lol).

It's a shame we were only in Esperance for three days. And two of those days - well one was a 6.5 hour drive in, and one was a 7.5 hour drive out. So two of those days were kind of not really spent doing much except driving. I wish we'd spent a week, or even two weeks here. There's a lot to do and see, the locals are really friendly, and the wilderness is fucking amazing.

As it is, even with the short amount of time we were here, we managed to see some stellar beaches, as well as Humpbacks right off the coast. :)













A lot of these were on the Twilight Beach drive, which is very close to central Esperance, and is literally just beach after beach after beach after - well you get the idea.







Okay, apologies for the quality of the photos, but there are humpback whales in this shot! Off to the left, just before the island, you can see a fin poking out. There was actually approximately 6 humpback whales in this region, but the baby was being the most active, frequently poking fins / tail / head out of the water.





I think it goes to show how much Australia takes its beaches for granted when you have a relatively lovely day and NO ONE IS ON THESE BEACHES

I can understand why you loved Esperance! It is a glorious place, and I say that as someone who is not easily impressed by beaches. Of course for me the most thrilling bits would be the whales, but the land itself is exceedingly lovely. Out of curiosity I looked it up on Wikipedia to gain a better understanding of the area. I really like how many parks there are in the vicinity -- it sound fascinating. Did you get to see Pink Lake? (Sorry, the phrasing on that is odd. It is a pink lake, but also called Pink Lake so I didn't know what to pitch on.) I've seen salt lakes in Bolivia and Ecuador which had some interesting colours (and many flamingos) but none were that intense.

Pink Lake actually hasn't been properly pink for a while now! And while we were there, it just looked like a regular lake. It has a lot to do with climate change / frequency of rains / sunlight affecting the algal blooms and sediment, but Pink Lake hasn't been putting out as well as usual in Esperance for a few years now (the locals weren't too sad about it, but you get the impression that a lot of tourists are disappointed).

Apparently it might get a bit of a flush of pink later this year, but the brightest years haven't happened for a while.

That being said, Western Australia has more than one pink lake, heh. We have one in Kalbarri, and I believe there's another one in the Esperance region as well. Western Australia is weird like that. We're good for pink lakes and stromatolites. :D

I've never seen turquoise like that in the coast off the mainland before, so it was very awesome. :D
