The meerkats were great. They were just like, playfighting, grooming, interacting, running around, going on alert. Lots of fun. You never know which animals are gonna be active at the zoo.
Meerkats
African painted dog
This one started begging for food as the other approached.
I've been enjoying all of these photos as you've posted them, so I just wanted to let you know that they are wonderful and I appreciate you sharing them :)
Eee, those meerkats look so fat and happy! When I went to the San Diego Zoo, the meerkats looked so depressed. One came out of one of the holes, stood up in that meerkat-like way, waited for people to take pictures, sighed, and then crawled back into the hole. I love the little faces in the ones you've captured here! :3
All these pictures are so great, thank you for sharing! I love the giraffes as well. Eeeeee.
Those meerkats are doing really well, and apparently they're breeding like crazy. Same with the African Painted Dogs (so much so, that there's usually a surplus of puppies every year. But I'm sorry that the meerkats you saw were depressed! These guys were so lively, especially given that humans can really get quite close to them. It was amazing to see.
African Painted Dogs! :) I love the photos of their interactions, and their markings always remind me of star maps for some reason. Of course the Giraffe photos and the Meercats also make me want to go back to Africa... *sighs wistfully*
I love the African Painted Dogs, and they're so lively and happy. My grandmother (who was a docent there) told me a while ago that they're breeding so well that there've been surpluses of puppies, to the point where they've had to start slowing down the breeding program. And that's a good position for a zoo to be in!
I love their markings. And the Meerkats, I was glad I got the photos I did. I wasn't in the enclosure long - because there were a lot of screaming kids around that day, so to get that much activity in only about 5 minutes is kind of awesome.
This was the first time we'd gone in two years, so it will probably be about another year before I go back, unfortunately. Hopefully I can get to Caversham Wildlife Park before then though.
