I almost didn't make it here,
because I ended up having a breakdown in the morning,
because of thorny family reasons.
But in the end I went, and I was glad.
This was the only place I'd asked if we could go to.

Apologies for some repeat photos, I was using my camera and my phone here, and in the end I didn't want to cut any. I should add that the conditions were terrible, some of the highest winds I've ever been in, in my life (and that's saying something given where I live). Only a week before, a woman had tragically passed away from a section of the cliff falling on her, and so the beach itself was closed off completely.

On the way there.

Pulling into the carpark. They don't think they'll be able to preserve these buildings. (Due to chalk cliff erosion and how close they are to the edge of the cliffs - which is very).

Brighton

At this point it was afternoon and I was not well. But this was - and the Seven Sisters - was how I spent the last day of 2013!

And then I went home and slept for a thousand years, lol.

So lovely. It reminds me a little bit of my trip to the Cliffs of Moher (the weather was similar, certainly ^_~)

I'm really glad you got to see this.

I've never made it out to see the chalk cliffs and I definitely want to. I can't make any definitive plans at the moment but I think sooner rather than later I might go back to the U.K. for a ramble around. It's *hard* to get out of London, though. So may museums! ;D

There's a story in those buildings and the cliff erosion...

It has been over 20 years since I've even visited that part of the world but it still somehow screams Home. I was born in Eastbourne and we went out to Beachy Head, Box Hill, Berling Gap and many of the other places along those chalk cliffs.

I moved to Newcastle, NSW when I was 6 and it also seems like home and so does this area of Central NSW now too but yeah, white chalk cliffs, black soil and green, green rolling hills full of rabbit holes make me long for my home on the other side of the world.

When I was growing up my Dad painted the Seven Sisters on my brother's wall. He'd tell us fictional stories about smugglers and pirates and the caves near Berling Gap and rowing up the Cookmere. He'd tell us about Belle Tout lighthouse that they moved back from the edge to save it. I know there were some cottages that had already lost half the row over the cliff. I don't know if they are the same ones.

I'd love to go back as an adult. My brother and parents have made it back there but I doubt I'll ever be able to afford it on disability pension and I'm not sure physically I could manage it either but yeah, it's beautiful and sad and brings to me the smell of the air with the chalk and the sea and the fog.

I don't remember much about Brighton other than the pier and I went to a dolphin show there when I was 5.

The photos are gorgeous
