Soft pastels with two hard pastels. Mi tientes. Some messy fingers. A wet teatowel. Very unhelpful cats who decided to run all over it halfway through...
I *really* am in love with this. The smooth coolness of the background against the bright splashes of red, the way the pale blue and yellow really highlight the raven. The yellow lines really show a good flow to the piece too. :) I struggle with both pastels and abstract elements, even though I love them in artwork, so I fully appreciate those who can.
I'm glad you like it. I actually think you'd be great with pastels, once you learned the techniques (and Youtube shows pretty much all of it, these days!) You're very good with colour in your digital work (and traditional, but your digital makes me think of it more), and if you applied your sense of colour to the pastel medium you'd probably find it takes off pretty quickly!
I really like it. It's vibrant, and my brain puts together how to do something similar in Photoshop, and that makes me like it more, because if you did that digitally there'd be all these clunky little fiddly details that someone would have to know to pull off, and it wouldn't be as immediate and real.
Is this something you're coming back to or is a new medium?
Something I'm coming back to. Pastels were one of my very first mediums, long before I ever thought I could do anything useful with fineliners or coloured pencils. :D
The play of texture with color in this is so fascinating; I've been sitting here admiring it for quite a while!
And heh, cats and art can be an uneasy mix. Mycroft likes to bat at my brush or step on a painting just after a fresh glaze. He's lucky I love him too much to lock him out. :D
