Distracting myself from ground compaction with photos,
didn't get much sleep last night. Only about four hours.
That's what I get for going to bed at 2.30am.
Ah well.
It's a Saturday today - so, more artwork!
Can I also mention how AWFUL Photobucket's changes are?
What photo caching site do you use? I'm thinking about changing sites.


This is Maybe with a Kong Wubba. She is only allowed to play with dog toys, since cat toys aren't strong enough for her pica.

As for what I do for photos, I stick them in Dropbox. I haven't touched Photobucket or Imageshack for a few years now, except to dig out old stuff that's no longer on my computer.

Maybe has matured into a lovely adult kitty, I STILL can't believe she was only half an hour from euthanasia when she was fostered, because she looked boring. I mean, they didn't even know about her major behavioural issues, it was literally - solely - on the way she looked. Horrifying.

Good to know re: Dropbox. I use Dropbox a bit, but I'm not sure if they can be easily linked to in the way I code my pictures into blog posts like this? I'd need to look into that. I'm also considering Flickr.

I'm not sure how you particularly code in your pictures; I just right-click the file from the folder and do "copy public link"; multiple pictures are done just by pasting and editing the link (ie: IMG202 to IMG203 and so on). It's slow-going, but I tend to do things the hard way anyway. ^^; Flickr might be a little easier to use in that regard. I've not tried it, but it seems like it'd be much more oriented for easy sharing of pictures, far as I know.

One of my cats has pica. He loves the corners of furniture to gnaw on.

Our guys also had a Kong Wubba, but we had to leave it behind when we moved.

A lot of cats like to gnaw on things (especially those in the oriental families - siamese, burmese, abyssinians and more, and crosses), I'm not sure if they diagnose that as pica? Pica tends to refer more specifically to the actual active consumption of foreign objects - Maybe will eat three quarters of a sock, and she won't spit it out again. She's needed life-saving surgery to save her from an impaction from foreign objects, and back when it was very bad, a fair bit of her excrement would have fabric in it. But they might diagnose differently in different places. In Western Australia pica is = swallowing foreign objects outside of the developmental period where this can be considered appropriate. But it may also include gnawing in other places. I wish Maybe gnawed! She only starts on a foreign object in order to swallow it down.

My pica cat is a purebred Maine Coon. Not only does he gnaw in every corner of a shelf, dresser, or other particle board/wooden object, he swallows what he eats. Also: he eats plastic bags and other crap. I had to chase him down last week when he chewed off and stole a big piece of trash bag. By the time I caught him, he had swallowed it. :(

And he's definitely past the developmental period.

You might want to get him tested for mineral deficiencies (if you haven't already). Outside of behavioural issues, the first or primary reason most cats develop pica is mineral deficiencies, or an issue in digesting or absorbing certain minerals or vitamins. This can often be solved quickly once the missing supplement is identified. Once that's ruled out, you can go to behavioural issues (usually chronic and ongoing stress) which can be ameliorated with products like Feliway / establishing a routine / whatever the vet recommends.

I've been using Flickr for years, though if you want to have more than, I think 200 images 'active,' you have to pay $25 a year or something like that.

Does Maybe chew on cardboard?

We've resorted to dog-chew treats for our kittens, because they destroy any cardboard they can get their teeth on, and they rip their kitten toys open (or drown them. Or both).

Maybe prefers fabric over cardboard. Though she will eat it if she sees a little bit on the ground. We generally leave boxes out for the cats to play with, since even if she does eat cardboard, it's far less likely to cause an impaction than fabric is.

My kittens have never eaten fabric, though they're interested in the quilt batting I left out (Whoops).

I'm with you on the cardboard: I bring home boxes for them to destroy, since they seem to enjoy it (Watching two cats tear a hole in the corner of a box, one inside, one outside, is a pretty amusing sight).
