[Art] Sneak Peek at an upcoming art project. :)

Le Animale and I have been working on a collaboration over the past few months.

She has been sculpting 10 totems amongst all her other works, and then they have flown over to Western Australia where I have painted them in my own style.

Additional, separate illustrations with a more complex style, all featuring landscape elements, will be going on sale to commemorate this project within my own Etsy store.
Each totem will come with a laminated collector's card, which features a print of the illustration, as well as a paragraph of meaning about the totem, written by myself.

Although not officially launched yet, we are taking pre-orders of the sculptures. I have been so tempted to keep all some of these for myself!


Pre-painting - From left to right (the ones crossed out are the ones already ordered) Gentoo Penguin, Red Kangaroo, Komodo Dragon, Meerkat, Amur Leopard, Dugong, Dodo, Giant Oceanic Manta Ray, Harpy Eagle and Ocelot.




This is a limited edition collaboration that will happen approximately every six months or so. In the interim we shall be working on our own projects, and not offering customs (it's unfeasible with postage - they are jetsetting totems, created in the N. Hemisphere and painted in the S. Hemisphere!)

They look awesome even without paint, though your work on them made them many time more awesome. I'm eyeballing Dodo, though right now I'm getting the feeling that s/he is meant to go somewhere else. Hrmm.

How much are they? It'll probably take me a little while to know for sure. When I buy sacred art of animals, it's not just my choice. I have to make sure the Totem will be comfortable around me and the spiritual ecology of my room. I had to do that with Thylacine. :-) She spent quite a while going "Maybeeee" but eventually she said OK. She tends to stay to herself and I respect that but every once and a while I'll detect a strong dose of her energy.
Dodo isn't giving me a solid yes or no, but I'll ask for a few audiences with her to see if she gives a definitive answer.

The sculptures are $68 each + postage, and the illustrations are $105 each + postage. Both are being sold separately, but the sculptures - I expect - will get snapped up faster than the illustrations will. :)

The sculputres are gorgeous. ^^ But I'm always so disturbed by the name "Le Animalé". Do you know why the person picked the name, is it supposed to be French or another language?

I know the question wasn't directed at me, but if I recall correctly, it's just a neologism (sort of). It's not supposed to be French.

Okay. It sounded/sounds like it was intended to be French-like ("le" + noun, accentuated letter...). I find it disturbing and offensive because whatever the original intent was, the words visually result in harshly butchered French (animale exists but not animalé, and you would use l' in front of it, not le). Some voluntary typos do look cute, but I find this one horrifying each time I see the name. Which is a real shame, because the sculptures themselves are so amazing!

I don't know why Laura chose the name, unfortunately. I do think it's a neologism, as tangledaxon said, and isn't supposed to be any one language. But I couldn't answer with any clarity, I'm afraid.

Oh how neat! I wish I had the funds to get one. Maybe in the next round...

The next round shall be around 6 months or so down the track, so there will definitely be time! :D

Sweet! I'll definitely have to save my pennies. And amusingly enough, that will be near my wedding date with shatterpath, so maybe I'll have to save up the pennies to get her one for her present...

ETA :: And while I'm thinking of it, do you know what the pricing is on them? *needs to budget*
