Wow, we did a lot on Day 4.
I've actually split it into two posts,
so that the Boranup karri forest can get its own.
I was going to stagger these over several days,
but I'm getting impatient, because I have zoo photos to put up too!
Comments are love. :)
The Margaret River ghost trees.

Early morning farmland on Caves Road

Morning light in the karri forest, this is the typical karri-jarrah forest that you see on the southern end of Caves Road.

Augusta

Looking back. We had it all to ourselves, on this beautiful day.

On the dunes. It had been an unusually cold night, and so the frost was melting into dew.

Hi Glen! He was drawing patterns in the sand. We sat down after about forty minutes of walking and watched the waves roll in.

On one side of Redgate Beach...

The roll cloud that started here and,

Finished here.

Me and the spray of waves again.

Margaret River

An ever-cheerful Hibbertia

Growing amongst the roots of the jarrah and karri trees.

The Dead Tree

Margaret River again!

Prevelly wants you to know that it is dangerous.

Surprise! A wild Glen appears!

So long, Prevelly, we'll see you next year.

Date: 2012-08-15 01:57 pm (UTC)The light in "early morning farmland" photo is really lovely. I can practically feel what it was like being there at that time.

Date: 2012-08-18 12:15 am (UTC)It was a work day, but it's also a tiny little hamlet of a town. The houses 'right there' make up a lot of the population of Augusta! And it's hard to get to from more populated places.

Date: 2012-08-18 12:20 am (UTC)And what are the lobelia-like purple flowers?
Do you mean the first photo of purple flowers? They are Devil's Pins, or a species of Hovea (closely related to, but not actually Hovea pungens). Unfortunately, there are so many species in that particular family that it's not covered in the book I've got to hand!

Date: 2012-08-21 05:44 am (UTC)Your photos - all of 'em, not just the ones in this post - are heart-wrenching in the best of ways. Thank you so much for sharing them. You have a fantastic artistic eye for composition and all of these are stunning-- particularly the frost-into-dew closeups.
Pardon me while I go pine for the coastline... :)
