[The Holiday] - Days 1 and 2: Prevelly, Wyadup, Bunker Bay.

I'm doing these in day order, instead of any other order. Also, the karri forest will get its own post, as I went overboard. *blush* It's just so lovely there, and such a magical place for me, that I take as many photos as possible in order to try and convey that others.
I'm so silly that way.


Prevelly






Prevelly - the Rivermouth, this shows the extend of the damage after the Margaret River fires. That black 'hill' is literally just burnt, green scrub. It's meant to be the same colour as the scrub in the foreground.





It was lovely and stormy when we went. We arrived after a 4.5 hour drive in fairly heavy rain through some parts.





Wyadup beach and hillside - This was literally down a side road, which didn't sign the spectacular beach we found at the bottom of it.

The chicken! This chicken was resting in the lee of some granite boulders, close to the ocean and clearly had escaped from nearby. (If I knew where it had come from, I would have returned it). It was in very good condition.









Wyadup The chicken was literally resting to the right of this. So on one side you have this, and on the other side you have...





I could live here.





Suddenly, a wild Glen appears! I choose, Pokeball!





Bunker Bay - We had all these places entirely to ourselves.

Half rain, half not.













It's funny you know, we have these typically Perth beaches only about thirty minutes from us here where we live. You know, powdery white sands, azure waters and skies, that kind of thing. But it's these storm thrashed, empty, rugged beaches I love best.

Also, sugarloaf rock - one of my favourite places ever - was closed! As in, completely blocked off. Alas. But still, we were definitely spoiled at Bunker Bay and Wyadup for pristine air and amazing beauty. :)

I love the shot of the silhouetted trees, the storm/rain over the ocean, and looking down from the lookout. If I were that chicken, I'd escape down there whenever I had the chance, too!

I know right? Like, the magic travelling chicken, going to all the really picturesque places in Australia. And seriously, its plumage was in such good condition. Maybe it goes down there all the time!

When my mother, sister, and I were on a lovely beach in southern WA (I honestly can't recall whether it was closer to Peaceful Bay or Elephant Cove; somewhere in that stretch), we found a very happy Border Collie on the beach, alone. Thinking we might ring her owners, we looked at the tag. Side 1: 'Ruby' and a phone number. Side 2: 'If at beach, say "Ruby, go home!" Perhaps there's a similar command for the adventurous chicken. :)

That is so awesome! The 'if at beach, say 'Ruby, go home!' Heh. Beach dogs, I heard a few stories about them while I was down there. :D

Wonderful photos! I love rugged beaches too, and I'm hoping to make it further up the (USian) west coast soon, to the places where there are tide pools and storms.

Also, as to the chicken – how wonderfully absurd.

The chicken was so unexpected. It really just was... geographically in the middle of no where. Like walking into your back yard and finding a beluga or something. Well, maybe not *quite* that absurd, but close!

The half rain / half not photo was fun to take. We had that a lot, actually while we were down there, watching rain in one section of sky, and it being sunny in another section. I love that sort of weather.

These are so very lovely! Thank you for sharing them. I love the rugged beaches best, too. Pretty tourist-y beaches are nice, but something about the breaking waves on the rocks and the windblown flora just feeds my soul.

I'm not sure how warm/cold the water is. It's the Indian Ocean, but it was also the middle of winter, and so it's hard to tell. No one was swimming in it! To be honest though, it's not the temperature that would get people; beaches like that have king (rogue) waves frequently, and rips, and they're not recommended for swimming. People have died off that section of coastline as a result of swimming or simply standing on the shore and not being vigilant of the waves.

Oh, these are *super*! Thank you so much for sharing them! Glen's grin is infectious -- you can see you were having a great time. And the photos with the silhouetted trees were particularly striking, though they're all beautiful. You know I'm really not one for the sea, and even I love these. :)

I love the silhouetted trees; and they always look like that on an overcast day. They're just so striking. I think what makes these oceans so easy to love (for me), is that they're always surrounded by scrub, trees, rocks, and so on. It's not just 'beach' if that makes any sense.

Wow. The landscape shots - the ones not of ocean, or even the ones of ocean if you subtract out the surf - are eerily reminiscent of Colorado's high plains. It reminds me of the scrubbrush out here. Beautiful land.
