it's a miracle I got this photo,
since I dropped the camera, and it bounced off the table onto the floor.
so, now that I've scared the pants off myself...
anyway,
so glad it's done. that second coat of black paint on the tentacles was gruelling.
autodidact: An Unlikely War

* cold-pressed Crescent illustration board (full sheet); coloured pencil, watercolour pencil, waterfast ink (Artliner), black acrylic. *

Date: 2012-02-09 09:25 am (UTC)And I just realized that it conceptually reminds me some of my in-progress Blood-Verine image--but instead of the Wolverine attacking (or eating) its own shadow, it's attacking an octopus-like 'shadow', per se. Blood-Verine is also an image intent to have a probably stark white background of snow, which I'm reminded of with your all white background here. Yeah, my experiences with Wolverine as a guide thus far have strong ties to its fierceness and strength in being able to oppose that which I consider "Shadow" to me, so that lets me connect more with this piece of yours because my mind interprets it in a roughly similar way.

Awesome sauce.

Date: 2012-02-09 04:28 pm (UTC)The depth of the shading in wolverine is just... perfect. It's so rich and looks very touchable. I also love how much negative space you've left in the background. It really adds something in contrast to the flat, ominous black of the tentacles, and also the depth and detail put into wolverine. Just... yes.
