[Art] autodidact: An Unlikely War - Work in Progress

Apologies for the lack of contrast.
This is the largest piece I've ever done (in illustration board),
on the largest size of illustration board that you can bulk order.
So, I had to balance it on two chairs and the lighting wasn't so great.
I'll figure out a better way to get photos later.
Still needs some work; need to round off the ears and fix the right forearm,
but I'm happy with the face and the tentacles otherwise.
This is twice the size of The Bronze Forest.

I was just curious, some might say its quite a commitment to an art peice this large wihtout having a commission for it. I am not saying you have to have one, or should have one.

Though if it turns out to be what I think it will be, it will be full of awesome.

It's a personal project, and a big commitment (for you're correct, it's a big financial hit to start working on pieces this large without any money coming in to support them). It will be a series, eventually. Two illustrations are planned already, and another three in concept, but I'm hoping to turn out about 10-15 of this size.

It'll be pretty different to what I usually do though. A lot more white space.

Is that a badger fighting an octopus? *squees* That is so made of win!

It's a wolverine, and the tentacles are non-descript (in terms of what kind of cephalopod), but that's the general gist, yes. :)

Given what the subjects seem to be, it doesn't strike me as an unlikely war, using your previous associations with the animals.

This is why I love symbol interpretation; it just works on so many different levels. ^^

I'm looking forward to seeing this in color. It seems so far like a symbol set that can be interpreted many different ways.

There won't actually be much colour - just the wolverine, I think. Unless I change my mind, but it will be a lot of white space, and a lot of solid black; with wolverin-ey as contrast. *g*

And yeah, I like that as a symbol set it presents itself in a few different ways.
