There are many species of funnelweb spider in Australia, predominantly found in the Eastern states. Funnelweb spiders seek humid locations in which to burrow and will occasionally hunt above ground at night. They are characterised by their dark colouring and glossy carapace.
Female spiders live for over 10 years, males less than a year (seeking to mate with many females in this time). The female defends her egg sac vigorously and when the eggs hatch, the spiderlings stay with the mother for around three months. The funnelweb spider is venomous, its venom being particularly effective against humans. Since the introduction of the antivenin, no deaths from the funnelweb spider toxin have been reported.

Just like walking into spiderwebs at night-time does. Ick ick ick. Granted, I have had one of those experiences where I go 'oh my god do I have anything on me?' and a friend has screamed and gone 'AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH THERE'S A SPIDER ON YOUR HEAD' which is you know... traumatising.

It's shiny in real life, a lot of copper paint was used on this.

It's funny, because I want to put spider pictures under a cut because I know some people are really phobic. But funnelweb insisted that she didn't go beneath a cut, she wanted people to 'see' her. It's just strange, because she spends a lot of her life not in people's faces at all.
