but all I see is how freaking scrappy it is.
Can't wait to start laying into this with coloured pencil.

It's always interesting to me how what looks like only a couple of colours actually involves much more to create, in terms of shading, high/low lights, etc.

*nods* I probably use a couple more colours than strictly necessary for a monochrome piece (theoretically you just need white, the colour, and something to darken it with); but I like the depth and sense of light and shadow that comes with adding other colours. The indigo on the right hand side for example adds a really nice sense of depth - a black would flatten everything out, but indigo and brown work together like alchemical magic.
