It's been raining on and off for 24 hours, which is delightful.
But it's not enough.
The rain/water situation in Perth is frightening.
But on another note,
I'm thinking about making zucchini and corn fritters for dinner tonight. :)

All the hens make me so, SO happy! What's it been like so far working with them? :)

The chickens are awesome. It reminded me very abruptly that I used to spend time collecting eggs from friend's chickens as a child, and I liked them very much back then too. Their little noises, their feistiness, how they felt when you patted them, and how proud and amazing they were as animals.

I've always wanted to keep chickens one day (laying hens, though I'd be tempted to also keep them for meat too, if I could learn a humane way of killing them), and this has just reinforced that.

All of that is why I miss the flock I spent time with as a kid. Curse cities with tiny lots :(

That's excellent. :) And I agree. I've gone with Luke a couple times on the farm to collect eggs (awesome) and we're planning on having laying hens as our first venture into the world of farming in a couple years. Broilers too (what we call meat hens here) which we hope to kill humanely as well. Regulations may mean we have to bring them somewhere licensed to do it, but I'm hoping we can do our research to make sure the killing is humane.

Hens are just so nice to be around, besides being extremely useful. :) A couple of hens could easily give most people all the eggs they would ever need. It's sad so many cities won't allow people to keep them.

How does the "energy" of different chicken breeds differ? And I really like your wolverine a good deal. The eyes, the face... I'm *really* looking forward to seeing this one finished.

It doesn't differ too much overall (with the chicken breeds). I found Rhode Island Red a lot feister, Dutch Bantam came the most easily and seemed the gentlest out of all, and the Sussex hen was proud and wary, but kind and maternal.

Yeah, I've been meaning to do a 'proper' illustration of Wolverine for such a long time, and finally got off my ass and decided to do one!
