Someone went to Koondoola bushland today.
(Hint: It was me).

As it's early Autumn, nothing was really flowering in Koondoola. In fact, the only thing flowering was this. The ants were very much enjoying it.





A result of arson.





The fire burning near our place, all the way up there in Ellenbrook.





Dense. Sometimes the bushland just wants to be busy, no matter what.

Your area is so beautiful.

I very much like the photo with the little shrubs, all growing together, and the close-ups of the seed heads.

I like seed heads too, I think they're so beautiful. The top one is actually from a long, long stalk that looks like a spear. Very imposing when they all rise up in the bushland at once. Some can be over 7 feet tall.

Thank you for sharing these! I'm endlessly intrigued by how different the flora is there as well as the fauna. :)

Kwongan flora as well tends to be quite different from elsewhere (like Australia's temperate woodlands probably have more flora that resemble other countries; kwongan is like this whole new ballpark of strange). I love it so much. That there was pretty much not a single thing (barring one plant) flowering in the bushland gave me a good excuse to focus on some of the other things for a change.

Australian natives are such great fodder for me in terms of worldbuilding...

A lot of arson happens in Koondoola as it's a tremendously low socio-economic area (it's commonly thought to be the worst suburb for crime, North of the River). And yet everyone you usually meet in there is very nice. Aside from the arsonists of course. They've hit Koondoola in about 6 different places. At least the bushland is mostly designed to come back from it, and the pockets are small and fairly self-contained.

That's good; I still remember the year it hit around my Aunt's old place north of Placerville, CA (gold mining town, back in the day).

Still miffed that folks have to resort to arson for 'kicks'.
