Delicate Mouse / Little Native Mouse (pre-colouring)
Pseudomys delicatulus
An Australian native species that may actually represent more than one individual species. More research is needed.

Oh wow! I really like how you've laid this one out. It feels very organic and "hidey hole"-like, which seems appropriate for a mouse...

Really? I didn't know that the subspecies could be different species.

I had no idea... That's fascinating, and kind of sad-making, too.

Love the totem feel of this drawing, and how the mouse is placed asymmetrical to draw the eye. When I first started scanning downward to look, I thought the upper curve of the oval was the chin of a frog with folds of skin or veins that turned out to be the grass. I've had pet rats before and you've caught that slightly anxious 'what what that' pose typical of rodents. I agree with Ariestess' comment of the hidey hole and add that I saw a shield (like a warrior's shield) in the oval shape.

Lovely stuff!

Is this the awesome little mouse that can die suddenly from being handled by researchers in the field? And am I wrong for finding that fact adorable (though not so great for the mouse)?

*love this piece!* :)

Squee! I do so love mice. :) It looks like I could reach out and take it in my hand, if it didn't seem so elusive and quick.

You've really captured the delicacy of the creature itself in this. Using the seeds it eats decoratively was also masterful -- here is the animal, it's environment, and all of it rendered as artistic symbolism but still real. :)
