[Art] BW Frilled-Neck Lizard (pre-colouring).

I'll be redoing about 18 cards from the Australian Animal Oracle Deck, and frilled neck lizard is one of them. The frilled neck lizard represents 'facade,' among other things.





You've probably noticed that I've got a lot of black and white inked pictures coming up at the moment but nothing coloured. I'm going through an 'inking' phase. Which means at some point, there'll probably be a flood of illustrations coloured all at once!

You know how much I like the inked phase of your art, so waiting to see the colour is no hardship. :) I really like the scales on the lizard, and the linework on the sun. There's a really feeling of upward movement, and of "blinding the viewer" with it.

I actually really liked the previous version of the illustration, but knew I could do a better version, and wanted something on illustrator's board. But I think both pictures have that appropriate 'fierceness' to them. Any lizard that's actually smallish, but stands its ground and hisses and spreads its neck flaps (and then even more hilarious; rears onto its hind legs and actually charges the predator) is able to present a pretty fierce facade!

I'm loving all the black and white. When there's nothing but your inking to look at, it really drives home just HOW MUCH you do of it!

I am doing a lot right now! But a break is coming up because - shock horrors - I'm out of illustrator's board and Jacksons is out too! I'm waiting on a phone call for them to get ten half-sheets in for me, but... it's been a couple of days and they haven't called me yet. *frowny face*
