Holy gods. That is STUNNING. The shading just flows so perfectly, and it's an excellent color combination. This is one of your best pieces ever, IMO, which is saying a hell of a lot!

The luminosity (if you'll pardon the dreadful pun) in this is wonderful. I particularly like the contrast in the energy spirals, and the gradation of "shine" on each bird. :)

The answer to this question might not mean anything to me as a non-artist, but you mentioned earlier that you radically altered how you intended to colour this. Was it a difference in medium (i.e. a different type of pencil), or different type of effect that you originally had in mind?

It was actually originally going to have a very very pale, turquoise / white / pale green background. So I literally went with the opposite side of the spectrum into browns, blacks and then a very dark green smudged over some the background.

It still needs some lifting out in person. When the light isn't hitting it, it's quite flat. But when the light *is* hitting it (i.e. this photo), it already looks great. So I think it paid off. Just a matter of working the flat colour in a way where I like it.

I can see where what you originally intended would have been beautiful, but I honestly think the current colour scheme is more dramatic. I'd definitely say it paid off! :)

I agree with everyone else who's said this is one of your best ones. I haven't been able to pin down what's different about it, but even in the first stages it had an extra kick of - vibrancy? Something like that.
