Date: 2010-07-13 01:57 am (UTC)Maybe... was because we never knew if we were going to get her. She wasn't the rescue cat we wanted. And we originally visited the foster carer to see another kitten who was just... not right for us. We saw her, but didn't know if we'd be allowed to get her (she'd been up for adoption for weeks and weeks). Her name, at the time, was Lady.
We decided, she didn't really fit the name Lady, and when we referred to her it was constantly 'well if she calls us back maybe we'll get her' and there was a lot of 'will we / won't we,' and a lot of 'we may get her / we may not.' I also think Maybe sounds like a feminine name.
And in addition, her life has been a lot of maybes. She was found with her two sisters in rural bushland, struggling for survival and very thin. They didn't know if she'd live. And then, she was literally saved from euthanasia 20 minutes before she (and her sisters) were scheduled to be put down, for not being 'interesting looking' enough, despite the very unusual lynx-tufts on their ears (a very limited number of purebreed domestic cats have this; only three really, and in one it's a disqualifier). And then she was listed on PetRescue, and I kept seeing her, but I was looking for something else, and everyone ignored her for weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks. And then we did see her (by total chance/coincidence) and like her, but we just didn't know, and yeah...
And then she needed life-saving surgery not so long ago (which is why she has all the patches), and even that was a 'maybe she'll pull through, maybe she won't.'
Maybe is a cat who has had a life of maybes. She's been through an awful lot in her short eight months.

Date: 2010-07-13 02:15 am (UTC)I have had the song 'Killer Queen' in my head on and off for weeks, and only just connected it to your writing and piccies of Moet lol!
'She keeps a Moet Chandone in a pretty cabinet/let them eat cake she said, just like Marie Antoinette'
But in the song Freddie pronounces it as "Mo-aye" so that is how I have been reading it :-)
I do like that name for him. He is a very handsome pussycat :-)
And yes about Maybe being unusual-looking. And doesn't she have markings round her eye like black eyeliner? We had a cat called Khepri who was a grey version of Maybe, who had the ear tufts and the black eyeliner. But his nose was, as the vet cried in delight 'true terracota' *grins* We got him from the RSPCA, and I always wondered what his ancestry was. He was a stunning young man, I tell you. And an awesome awesome personality *smiles*
Maybe reminds me of Khepri in looks. He was also long in his body, and long legged and long-tailed. Not big, but long. Even as an adult.
Wow, she had indeed been through a lot in her young life. Awesome for her she has such a fantastic home and mum and dad :-)

Date: 2010-07-13 01:11 am (UTC)Maybe has started the unfortunate habit of gnawing on her sling!!! But she's growing out of it, slowly, so I'm not too fussed.
