The second one is a bit harsh, but not as bad as the current UK Government making people on benefits homeless by slashing the money they get so they can't afford to pay the rent.

What amazes me about it is how the Austrialian Governement thinks that it can dictate to people what they do with their money. But you'll probably see more and more policies like that as economic troubles continue.

I can't afford to pay rent on my DSP here in Western Australia. The average rent here is $600-700 per fortnight/two weeks; and I make the *full* amount of DSP, which is $710 a fortnight.

It leaves me a whole ten dollars for everything else. We have a rent crisis here, and rental prices are almost comparable with low-end mortgages.

As a result I live in a house with someone who will actually help me out. Otheriwse I'd never be able to afford to live anywhere but with my parents, or in some kind of mental health home, or perhaps mooch off some really caring friends (not that I'd really like any of those options).

$600-700 per fortnight is the bottom of the rental market as I understand it. It certainly is the bottom within the 10k radius of the CBD and almost anywhere with decent public transport links. We were paying $800 per fn for Railway Pde. $700 for that horrible house where our neighbours were smashing the windows....

*nods* Yeah, it's the primary reason why Glen and I did decide to buy a house (and you and Nic too, right?) because the prices between renting / paying off a mortgage are about the same atm.

It certainly is the bottom within the 10k radius of the CBD and almost anywhere with decent public transport links.

Actually, when my future with Glen was uncertain about six months ago, I was looking at the cost of a *single room* close to public transport (just out of Mt Lawley), and I couldn't afford that either. :/ A single room.

Just you wait, some fundies will turn the "non-controversial" teeth stem cells into a very controversial issue :P

You're killing the tooth pulp! Murderer!

What a shame, I'm all for stem cell research.

Ha! I actually still had my comment saved up from this morning. I apparently forgot to hit reply.

Eh hem.

Here's the comment:

The second link terrifies me. The things government does to try to "save" the people at large. Just awful.

I love the snarkiness from the advertisers! Ikea's was the best! That almost makes me proud to work at one. Almost.

Stem cells from teeth?! This gives a whole new life to tooth fairies!

I agree on the part about whales. Definitely a "well DUH guys!" type of thing.

The Australian government is particularly obsessed with 'saving' people from themselves. Like that incredibly stupid 'Clean Feed' internet censorship which will pretty much make us identical to China in terms of Internet Fail.

*sporks them*
