Date: 2010-06-29 09:19 am (UTC)For the fishing cat, no idea, and same for golden pheasant.
The other animal left is the bobtail and I'm thinking golds and browns, something that actually matches the bobtail itself; but I also feel a really strong 'you need a bright cobalt blue in there' so that might happen too. :)

Date: 2010-06-29 11:36 pm (UTC)I think I have tribal art influences; but not Aboriginal specific, no (I don't pull from their symbology or colour symbolism, for example).
The thing is, a lot tribal art looks incredibly similar because it has fundamental uniting basics - the use of repetition, simple shape, thick line (usually) and so on.
Because I live in Australia, it makes sense that people assume I'm taking from Indigenous tribal art (which really is quite different), but I think it's more accurate to say that tribal influence and the simplicity of repetition, shape and thick line are found in my art.
If that makes any sense.

Date: 2010-06-30 12:38 am (UTC)I'm sorry, on reflection it does seem a bit crass of me to assume your influences must be Aboriginal because you are Australian. I know absolutely nothing about tribal art, but for some reason I have a persistent sense, from whatever I've picked up from museums, TV documentaries etc, that there was a particular quality of... I don't know, maybe sheer enthusiasm in Aboriginal art in particular. Their work seems to capture a sense of "fun", if that's an appropriate word. There is such a vibrancy and enthusiasm to much of your work too that I made a slightly lazy assumption. Anyway, you are fantastic! Such a cute nose and such talent too. Some people just have it all!

Date: 2010-06-29 04:36 pm (UTC)By the way, I have one of your originals and I LOVE IT! My friend here on LJ saw that I faved your spotted frog original in your Etsy shop, so she gave it to me as a gift. I have to say, your work is even more stunning in person and now I want more. I adore it. ^_^
