Oh yeah, and I finished this yesterday as well.
Had to wait until today for good enough lighting, unfortunately my camera mangled the oranges (so I finally found a palette that confuses the camera more than purple/dark blue!), so if you imagine it warmer / yellower and more 'old' looking, you're there.

Gil and the Lesser Stick-Nest Rat

PRINTS (and a mousepad, and a mug, and a jigsaw puzzle, and so on)
38 x 51cm / 15 x 20 in
Original for sale - $689
Crescent illustrator's board, technical pens, pencil and aquarelle, metallic paint.

01. - So you can see the whole thing on your screen; unless you're looking at this on an iPhone or something, and then why? Why do that to my artwork? Why???

02. A larger version which amusingly doesn't even show you the individual lines in the rat's fur. I guess that's why we go to detail shots next.

03. While the overcast lighting messed up the oranges, it DID bring up the metallic green without me even needing a single camera flash. Booyah booyah.

04. Dots in the leaves. As I am a grade A moron.

I... have been waiting for this one so much. And I think it may be one of those pieces that just resonates with me so much. I love the colour scheme, I love the detail, I love the rats. Everything in this is just extraordinary.

I just need to win the lottery so I can make it mine. :D

I need to clearly go hit the thesaurus for words to describe how wonderful your art is.

Lovely as always!

It's so hard to get good photos of artwork. XD

I know the leaves caused you great pain, but they are fabulous. I also really like the shadings in the amber, and the colours as a whole.

As expected, this artwork is *every* kind of awesome. I wish I had $700 I could justify spending on it so it could be mine all mine.

The one thing I really want to point out as the most impressive awesome in the large pool of awesome is the colouring/complexion on Gil himself. It's both *very* redhead, whilst still being very reminiscent of you. *applauds*

If I absolutely had to quibble about anything, it would be that Gil's jacket should be a slightly forest-green-er tone, but that could just be lighting/my own redhead obsession with green. ^_^

Amber beads?

(I know I haven't been commenting on your art as much recently and sometimes I feel guilty about that, but I've always liked this piece. There is a feeling of delicacy (mostly in the rats) and solemnity (mostly in Gil) to it.)

Wow, the detail is incredible! The ratties really jump out from the background, it's a very nifty, almost 3d effect. You must have had insane patience, not to mention a very steady hand, for the leaves too!

I am in love with this piece.. all of that incredible detailing.. many little detail shots of this could be complete works of art in their own right. amazing.

I love the color palette, and Gil's expression.. and the softness of the rats.. they feel oddly comforting to me.

I keep coming back to the detail shot with the rat, and admiring the metallic edging/swirls.

This is very nice indeed.
