Date: 2010-05-13 02:58 am (UTC)It's a pretty alchemical process.
This is only the first layer of colours though. I do use coloured pencils after this, and sometimes even acrylic washes. But one of my favourite (and most tricky) parts of the process is putting down the watercolour pencil, knowing that they are really going to change once water is added.

Date: 2010-05-13 04:59 am (UTC)The thing I noticed a lot in drawing is that characters (men and women) tend to have Water hands. In Palmistry, there are hand types that correspond to the elements. Like, an Earth hand would be a short palm with chubby fingers essentially. Water hands are long palms with long, thin fingers. And that's what your picture reminded me off.

Date: 2010-05-13 06:43 am (UTC)Fairly educated guess work.
It's always fun when I'm trying out new brands though. For example, Faber Castell Albrecht Durer don't come out as strong as they first appear. Derwent Inktense come out VERY strong, no matter what you do, and sometimes radically different looking to how they appear. Derwent watercolours go on weak and come out stronger.
