Hai, I Am An Emu

I LOVE EMUS - I have also eaten them. Shh.

I'm Tired. Go. Away. - Tasmanian Devil.

Bennett's Wallaby - I think. You see, this wallaby had the right idea, relaxed on some grass, taking it easy. Unlike us poor schmucks, walking around at 9.00am.

Maybe a Bennett's Wallaby, or a Swamp Wallaby - I'm a macropod racist, some of the wallabies all start to look alike after a while.

Swamp Wallaby

Some Kind of Probably A Swamp Wallaby - Not like any of yall are gonna know without checking your Australian fauna books anyway. Yeaaaaaah.

Nankeen Kestrel - It is leetle!

Nankeen Night Heron - I LOVE herons. I love night herons. And I love all herons. I'm basically a slut for herons. Except not in an 'actual sex' kind of way. Because that would be wrong.

Nankeen Night Heron- Striking a pose.

I want to say Violet Headed Lorikeet or something, but I don't actually know, I am teh lame.

Masked Owl - There seems to be some rule of 'Pia taking photos' which is 'thou shalt never get an owl in focus.' So, sadly, this is the closest I got.

Red Wattlebird - I like this guy, mostly because he comes up and nibbles your hand / fingers extraordinarily gently. Also, there were heaps in Koondoola bushland / Alexander Heights. There are hardly any here in Ellenbrook. It's more common bronzewing and stuff here.

The end!

I think the owl picture was pretty good, the best owl I ever got picture of is a horn owl.

Thanks a lot for sharing this amazing photos!

Purple-crowned Lorikeet.

You were close, Violet-headed is also pretty.

They should be Violet-crowned Lorikeet.

Giant... hypnotic... emu... eyes...

I actually really like the owl photo, too, in spite of being slightly out of focus.

I have strange "issues" with emus [long story], but I think I am in love with both emu shots you took! The first is so cute, and the second kinda cheeky...

The rest of the shots are gorgeous, as well.

The second shot of the emu is SCARY. Emu going to eat faces. D:

I looove the owl shot. The slight out of focus lends even more softness to it. And it looks almost like the owl has snow on it, which took me aback at first. ^^' So pretty!

Emu just have that evil looking face. I've never seen an Emu head that just didn't scream "I am coming to find a way to make you pay". I am sure it's a defense mechanism in there to scare of the little predators. Like a Wolf or something.

I know it's silly, and it might be a very happy helpful emu... but their head never seems to say that to me.

The emu's eyes are so gorgeous; they look like gems.

That masked owl is striking and reminds me of barn owls. Now I gotta go spend time seeing if they're related or if they got environmental similarities, lol.

I've both raised emus and eaten them. Once, in succession.

Owls are just photo-resistant, I think. SO hard to get a clear shot on.

I love the shot of the Kestrel. Aussie Kestrels look so very different than the North American ones!

The birds are SO cute. Especially Nankeen Kestrel. :D

I like the owl one as well, though it's slightly creepy. I've only seen an owl once in the wild, and it scampered off.

eeee. thank you for all the pretty pictures.

(and the kids gave a HUGE squee at the lorikeets. Loris are one of their favorite animals. They love feeding them at the zoo.)

Thank you! I knew it was something purpley/violety on the top of their head. Hehe.

I also realised I need to update my bird identification book (even though I didn't use it yesterday while posting this), because mine is like 7 years old now.

Not a huge amount changes. Sometimes names, sometimes things are lumped or split.

Which one do you have?

I love emu eyes, they're so awesome.

This one actually had a lens shoved right in its face to get those photos - I was hand-feeding him the kangaroo pellets. Most kids are too scared to get close and I just marched up and said 'hi, can I take some photos of you if I give you some of these?' So the one of him looking down, is actually him looking at my pocket for more pellets (which is where I was keeping them). :D

I love love love emus, but even a lot of Australians find them very very scary - even without past history! They can attack people, they are big, they make creepy noises (which I love) and have very penetrating eyes.

Simpson & Day, and yeah, it's pretty old, I just checked and it's from 2004. So six years out of date.

Emu was awesome! He was very polite when he took food from my hand, though he did pinch my skin a few times, but he can't help that - huge beak!

Haha, emus really do have quite penetrating eyes and kind of glary faces, that's for sure. :)

Heh, I hadn't even thought, the emu was actually looking down at my pocket to try and see if he could get to the food I was keeping there, I think (I was feeding him pellets intermittently, to get those shots).

Really? And yes! It's the green one. I had one before that, I think in late highschool or the year after, and then my friend Clayton got me this one as a present.

What I did buy recently though, was a pictorial guide to the pheasants/fowl/etc. of the world, which is pretty awesome.

I actually like all the photos in all the posts, I just don't really know what to say a lot. And it turns into 'I like this one, and I like this one, and I like..

I think the emu looks more curious than having a creepily penetrating glare. Odd.

So cool that there were baby cassowaries there. I didn't know they had green on their faces before.
