Our Haul

The creme eggs are pretty much Glen's - he loves them. We each have a gigantic humpty dumpty egg (filled with beanies). And then the bags of peppermint red tulip eggs are miiiiine. And the Lindt stuff is mine too. Mmm. Lindt.

Ah, the 'red tulip' question is answered (considered looking it up, or just asking - lazy tonight)..

"beanies"? Jelly beans? I find I like the ones with actual fruit type flavors (I have Starburst this year) than the old-fashioned kind that didn't seem to have much flavor.

I have a little hollow chocolate rabbit - since chocolate is a migraine trigger; Whoppers eggs, Cadbury "Robin Eggs", and my husband got a chocolate/peanut butter rabbit (Reese's). Decent haul. We didn't dye eggs this year though :(

Beanies are basically red tulip's version of smarties. But we're so used to calling them beanies. Heh.

Cadbury's robin's eggs are awesome, I must see if there's any left, since they tend to survive the easter madness.

smarties are cool too. I didn't find a big bag of the robin eggs this year, instead, I got 4 little bags, which, with the other chocolate, is plenty - even though I LOVE them!

The giant eggs are vaguely frightening. :D

I'll refrain from commenting on the cream eggs. I had one once. I don't know if there's a difference between yours there and the ones here, but I did not enjoy the experience. Peppermint sounds nice though. Really, I'm not a huge fan of chocolate, and I find a great deal of what's marketed here isn't worth buying, even the so called "Premiums". It's frustrating, because sometimes one wants nice chocolate to give as a gift or have out for guests, yes? Lindt is the only thing commonly available here that makes a passing grade, and then there are a few specialty houses whose prices are sky high. The rest, not so good. Then again, the stuff that sells is obviously successful, so I can only shrug.

I'm not a huge fan of Creme Eggs, though I hate the ones that are manufactured in the UK and the USA (I've had both). I find USA cadbury chocolate to be overly sweet and sugary, and it's eastery egg chocolate even moreso. Combine that with the sweet, sugary filling ot the egg, and it just becomes radically cloying.

We've had people bring over Creme Eggs from the USA/UK like they're the best things ever. I don't know, I think Australian cadbury chocolate is too sweet, but I was wrong!

It's actually pretty easy to find high quality chocolate here in Perth; a lot of gourmands in the state (we are the biggest producer of truffles, for example, outside of France). And with the proliferation of wineries and truffle country, come the five star chefs... in the past 10 years there's been a shift away from cadbury towards Lindt and other European manufacturers, so that... in the past where you had to go to a specialty store to get Lindt 70% dark chocolate, now you just go into any supermarket. Other brands, including premium organics and free trades are becoming more common too. Nom.

I don't like dark chocolate much, but I do like a good premium milk. /ramble

The giant eggs are totally frightening! :D

It's interesting to hear you say that about the Cadbury products, because I've only tried it here of course and it was disgusting. (No offense to other people, yes? I realize tastes differ, and I'm one who eats raw meat on occasion so people can call that disgusting too. Mea culpa.) It was like ingesting syrup thickened with powdered sugar, and there was a touch of some stabilizer that was an "edible" oil product. but I could tell it was oil derived -- I was so revolted that you couldn't pay me to eat one of those things again.

What chocolate I like tends to be dark. The Lindt with chili pepper isn't bad, and is what I'll buy the odd time I want some. There's also another company that makes good organic chocolate: Green & Black's (http://www.greenandblacks.com/us/what-we-make/bars/maya-gold.html). Again the one I like is with orange and spices.

Yeah, Green & Black's is everywhere here. The Australian branch is the driving force in getting all of its products converted to Fair Trade by 2011 (and about 90% by the end of this year).

Frey is good too, but they don't export often so it can be hard to find.

I don't even want to discuss how much I got. Let's just say "two Lindt bunnies" and "two 16oz bags of Cadbury mini eggs" is only the very tip of a very large iceburg.

What!? It has to last me 'til Halloween! *clings to her massive chocolate hoard*

Mmmm, I had a Lindt bunny this year too :D And a creme egg. Creme eggs are JOY. Pure joy.

Mmmm, Lindt... Oh God, now I want a bar. A bar of the one that's got the softer white almost truffly chocolate inside. *drool*
