Yay grackle!

It's interesting seeing what you got from Grackle. It definitely fits with what I've experienced, but some of it I hadn't associated specifically with Grackle - like talking/socializing, problem-solving tough/resistant situations, self-expression - though looking at it and thinking about it, it makes sense.

Grackle energy helped a lot when I was hypersensitive and burnt out at work because to me, Grackle just doesn't care, he's acerbic and speaks his mind (haha, there's the self-expression, okay, I get it now), doesn't sugar-coat words. Grackle's concerned about "me and mine", which can be anything from an entire flock to just grackle/mate/nestlings and none others; there's no compassion (and during nesting time especially, he'll sabotage other birds who might be competition for survival).

Which got me through some tough/resistant situations. Learning to look out for myself rather than sacrificing myself for others was necessary at the time. And then I had to ease back from so much Grackle energy because I was becoming a major caustic bitch who didn't care about others' feelings/reactions to what I said/thought. >_> and I didn't need to be so much in survival-mode anymore.

*/babble*

Using others to get what you want - yes. I hadn't thought of it that way though.

It's so nice to see a writeup on Grackle that isn't as... fluffy-sounding as the Ted Andrews one. ^^'

problem-solving tough/resistant situations

This was specifically based on the adaptation they have within their beak to shear through tough material - like acorns and nuts - it's a very specific adaptation to very specifically deal with 'tough problems.' And that just seemed to speak for itself. :)

Yeah, I checked that one out. I can see where he's coming from, but everything I've read up on the fierceness of grackle I felt I had to do justice to, without maligning them, or making the qualities seem ZOMGAWESOME (you know, cuz they can be both).

Was at a study day from work the other day and the opening exercise was to choose three totem animals with which we identified the most, immediately wondered what you would have made of it :) We used native american totems and were encouraged to draw them as well, and I'm no artist!

That's a pretty cool opening exercise. I wonder what I would have chosen! None of them could have been NA animals, I think. *blush*

Wow!

Thank you! I went through about a year of not updating, and then updated with about 80 - overall - new animal totem meanings in the past two months. So I guess that drought has broken!

Time to go back to the actual illustrations though. :)

Holy crap, that's a lot. So glad to see Mississippi Kite on there! I've never been able to find that sort of info on them anywhere else.

Neither have I - Most of these animals don't have totem information out there already, or even folklore associated with them (I check beforehand). But that's what I like the most about writing files for animals that aren't 'rare', but aren't regarded as 'totems' that often either. Y'know?

I thought of you while finishing off the info for Mississippi Kite and hoped you saw some similarities there. :)

Wow, This is great! How thorough. I look forward to reading it. If you have any interest, I do art with animals a lot (seen at http://rachelelisekatz.blogspot.com) I'll be interested to read what you write on each animal and if it may make more sense of some of my drawings or offer another view.

Actually, looking at your blogspot was the tipping factor in me deciding to friend you back, *blush*, you have a wonderful and distinctive style, and I love it. It's both pensive, thoughtful, well-wrought and spiritual. :)
