Verticordia nitens - doing what it does best; overwhelming cameras with its vibrant orange.

Verticordia nitens - starting to fade. A far more tolerable orange. Less 'emergency services' and more 'floral' in nature.

No idea. Probably some kind of Melaleuca though, *cough* you know, one of the many hundreds of species. Not in flower, so I can't be assed identifying.

Dying kangaroo paw. This is actually my favourite photo out of the bunch. The colours were mad.

They look like little fuzzy hands with claws at the end.

One of my other favourites. This one is a 'well on the way out' kangaroo paw flower.

A valiently flowering Candle banksia. The flower on the left has fully opened, the one on the right has yet to open, so you can see the textural differences. The flowers are big. The ones here were much longer than the span of my hand from palm to the tip of my middle finger.

Unopened Candle banksia blossoms. Same tree. Very healthy tree at that.

The dead balga.

More dead balga.

Yet more...

And more...

Dragonfly.

Same dragonfly, new position, better zoom.

Another dragonfly.

I love the dragonfly pictures! I wish I could get a camera good enough to take pictures of them. Still, I have lots of time. :D

Oooo, I LOVE that first one. Dragonflies are amazing. So are those orange flowers!

Pretty dead things, too.

I really like all of these, so it's hard to pick just one and say "that one is my favorite". If forced, I'd say the first photo of the dragonfly, and then the third dead balga.

Please forgive me if I've asked this before and forgotten, but what sort of camera do you use? I am considering getting myself a new camera in the next couple of months, and of course I'm interested in taking animal and landscape pictures. More information is always good! At the moment I'm waffling between a low range SLR and an expensive digital because portability is also a consideration.

Lol, double post with this one :P

And I love the bright-orange flowers. I was gonna paint my room that color, but opted for a calmer purple shade.

The questionable Melaleuca and the dead balga ones are my favorites :)

It's not actually a double post, it's a glitch with Livejournal right now - some people's posts are missing entirely from the Flist, while others are being posted twice even though it has nothing to do with the user.

It seems to happen when you edit a thread, and press 'post' the second time to edit it. But yeah, it's been happening a lot on my Flist.

A Canon 400D Digital SLR. It was the best 'frivolous' purchase I've ever made, I mean I use it allllll the time. Originally I got it for my larger pictures of art, but I very much enjoy using it. I got a bundle/package that came with a macro and zoom lens, which is good, because I use a macro lens ALL the time, and am glad I didn't have to fork out separately for one.

If you're going to pay money for it, I would recommend a good SLR (which doesn't always mean 'reallllly expensive', but can), by Canon or Nikon, who are considered to be the best but still accessible.

Yaaaaaaaaaay! :D I love taking photos. It's like doing art and not doing art at the same time. :D

I'm not looking terribly pricy -- somewhere in the $500 range, which means a good compact digital, or a less expensive SLR. I haven't decided which yet. It's good to know that these are from the 400D, which is on my list of possible purchases. :)

Wow, you can get a 400D for around $500? I got mine two years ago, but back then it was $1800 (inc. lenses).

Yeah, biiiiig purchase. It was my 'last hurrah' before getting a house. I've never gotten anything as expensive since. Except for you know... the actual house.

$550, but it's just the camera, not the bundle. By the time you're adding a macro lens, etc. it's around $1100.

I never get tired of these awesome plant photos. :) Thank you for sharing.

Dragonflies scare the crap out of me. Even just seeing a photo makes me tense up. It's a shame, because they're such beautiful insects. And it's embarrassing, because I look like a moron running away from harmless bugs, lol.
