I've had a similar lament in the past. My skillset, that of spiritual work, artistic skill, crafting small items of beauty, would be much more valuable in a different society, in a different time. The one we're living in does not value it at all, even while it bemoans the loss of it. Be that as it may, artists of all kinds are the keepers of our society's spirit, its' soul, and without our creative expression to nurture it, it will die. Is there any doubt that the soul of our society is ailing, though? Not in my mind.
