The contrast is a little off, but meh. Graphite never scans as well as it should.

Yeah totally, I'm not happy with the way a lot of it scanned actually, but I also expected it - it is graphite after all.

Also, the rocks may not have scanned so well because I was a bit lazy with them. *grin*

Have you tried to force it to black and white or grayscale scan the picture? My scanner when I can get it to work comes up with a "is this right" screen asking me to confirm what media and format of the picture is. If you force it to scan as grayscale or black and white for a non color image I have found its resolution scale is massively bigger and it works much better (though often slower).
