Oh wow. Really nice job with the landscaping. It actually took me a moment to even notice the wall. Looks good.

Wow, thank you! Eventually, the wall will have some wrought iron artwork on it. Mum got me my first piece - a wrought iron dragonfly. I might look into getting a few, so that the little stepping stone pathway has some artwork around it at the end. :)

Took the words right out of my, uh, keyboard. :) LOL

Yard is looking great!

Yeah, the view beyond will be gone soon though. It's to be housing.

Ooh, definitely looking good! ^_^ I can't wait for potential gardening come Spring in the northern hemisphere.

I garden at all times of the year. I probably shouldn't be starting new plants in Summer (it's gonna be 110F+ on Sunday, for example), but I'm getting sick of walking on sand all the time.

Man, I wish! We have winter almost 6 months out of the year sometimes. :(

Global warming my butt.

That'll be gone soon; very soon it'll be other houses. Lol. Well, other fences / walls more like. Since I don't think they're constructing the houses to look directly into our garden!

It is, alas, going to be developed into housing.

I like the wrought iron art idea for the walls, but another idea that I've seen, at Nic's bro's place, is to have terracotta pots mounted on the wall with a length of cable. It's kind of hard to explain, but it's pretty! Though that wall looks quite exposed so the plants may get baked if that's the case... :P

Date: 2010-01-12 01:08 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com
Oh man, it's seriously exposed to full sun. That was taken at 8.30am, and the sun doesn't get behind it until maybe 5-6.00pm in Summer?

Date: 2010-01-12 01:32 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jet-ski.livejournal.com
Hm, hot wall! will be nice when your garden starts growing up and shielding the house from some of that ;)

Date: 2010-01-12 01:34 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com
Yeah definitely.

The plants we picked for that back wall, are all drought resistant 'we love and even flower in summer' varieties.

I would really like to put a nice big tree up against that wall, but I don't want to make it easy for Moet to get out, which is why our trees are actually far back from the walls / fences.

Date: 2010-01-12 02:23 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jet-ski.livejournal.com
so he doesnt jump over the fence? My two would be over that in a jiffy.

Date: 2010-01-12 02:28 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com
Nope. Smokey could do that fence in one go (especially as the top of the back fence is actually quite wide), but I've only seen Moet jump in one go to a height of five feet (and he does it rarely, preferring heights of about four feet), and tends to avoid anything higher (he won't jump to the top of his cat tower, for example, he'll climb it like a bear - all claws).

He's an adept climber (clamberer, lol) though, and he'll use trees / shrubs as stepping blocks to the top of the fence if necessary, a habit he learnt at my parent's place. So we're keeping woody shrubs away from the fences.

Pretty garden though, nonetheless :) The little plants are so cute, lol.

Yeah, I've walked that bushland a few times, and taken photos, it's sad to think that those photos may be all that's left one day.

I can't wait for the little plants to get BIG! :)

Those photos will be treasures for sure. I have to remember to steal my dad's camera for an excursion into the wetlands, I'm afraid they'll build more things on it. There's already an ugly "modern" church on it and a strip mall foundation nearby, what's stopping them from destorying the rest of it :/

And how big are those plants gonna get?

Date: 2010-01-12 03:52 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] moonvoice.livejournal.com
It varies, I know in metres, but I'm not sure if I can translate into feet very well.

The tree on the right will get to about 6 metres, the larger shrubs on the left, 3. I can do Celcius -> Fahrenheit conversion, but your non-metric system stumps me, sorry!

Date: 2010-01-12 04:05 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] white9-fox.livejournal.com
Don't worry, I've had to use solely metric systems for all my science classes except, like, kindergarten-level ones, lol. So I'm used to it.

I can't convert off the top of my head either, but I still understand what you mean even if it's in metric. If that makes any sense, lol.

I need to go back though. Right now it's snake season, and as there's no paths through it, it's not particularly safe. :/

I like the view too; that sucks that it'll be fences and such soon. >.> When I first saw it, I didn't think they'd build on a hill like that.

Love the little path. ^^

Dude, I totally just had this vision of the wall with this awesome mural on it of stones leading away into the distance instead of the stepping stones that end at the wall. Kinda like stepping into a looking glass, or out of it...

Sorry. My artistic side has been wanting to come out more-so as of late.

I looooooove how it's coming, though. And the plants are coming along nicely, too =)
